Nathan Fake - Steam Days

"Raised in Norfolk, Fake has been a part of the Border Community stable for the best part of a decade, while also building up relationships with the likes of Four Tet and Radiohead (who he remixed, along with Shed, Pearson Sound and others, for the band’s recent TKOL RMX series). The single’s title is a reference to the Iceni, an ancient Celtic tribe that lived in what is now Norfork."

The first track, "Paean", is very "Clarky", and i dig that. The rest of the tracks aren't as memorable at the moment, but i just listened to the album twice. I think it's his best album, production is top notch, and i suspect i will like it the more i play it... Good work, Mr Fake !

I'm a bit disappointed, but that happens most of the time when I really look forward to a LP and it doesn't sound like I was thinking. There are a lot of great tracks on there, but I find them not developed as lovely and weird as Nathan Fake usually does. Also, I'm very unhappy with the short track durations. The only track longer than 4 minutes is basically just a loop and my least favourite, "Glow Hole". I would have prefered six longer tracks which are developed more, but anyway, I have to wait and listen until I can say something valid.

It is a bit mellowed-out in terms of courage. It makes it flow better but I think more surprises in both sound and arrangement would help the record. Still, it is beautifully crafted and it seems that Nathan has found his "sound" of emotional but still very synthy dance music. It is like trance music for the heads.

Its no Drowning In A Sea Of Love but still a very nice release. I will just pretend from now on that Hard Islands has never been released

Exactly how I feel about that record. I personally would have loved a second "Hard Islands" or at least more courage.

Just got my copy in the post...

listening now. very impressed.

Great work IMO.. Crunchy beats, nice floating melodies... Kind of the way his old friend Chris Clark used to be!

Nah, you're a wee child who can't wait for official release. Embarrassing. Shove your privilege.

How have I never listened to him before? I was listening to so much Clark in 2009 that I completely tuned other stuff out. Clark and Lone and Bibio.
