Anyone recommend a good 3rd party VPN server?

So I'm moving back into unversity halls next year and I have to connect via proxy which limits me to http connections, so I've decided I need a VPN. I've tried looking around the net for some good review sites but there aren't any that I can really trust. Seeing as quite a few people here know their shit about computers, decided this is probably a good place to ask.

Basically all I want is to have no browsing or download limits (however I never bother with torrents so that's not an issue), access Minecraft / other game servers, connect to ftp servers using Filezilla, a good anonymity policy, protection from Firesheep / related security problems on public networks and be able to watch shows from sites that block off the UK. I'm not bothered about paying for the service, as long as it's not as much as a normal broadband connection (guessing £5 - £8 per month should be enough?)

Also stupid question but also need to know if you can connect to the VPN on multiple connections, for example if I can use my computer at Uni then take it to my parents house and use the VPN there, as recently their ISP has been playing silly buggers and throttling the connection whilst phoning up 5 times a day to ask whether they want to change to a faster package. It'd be nice to be able to bypass all that.
