Sounds in Cause works as an archive containing the sound heritage of a series of cultural contexts in Latin America where, for good or ill, the environment is expected to experience irreversible changes in the short and medium term as a result of economic growth. The Orquestra del Caos began collecting samples in October 2009. At present, the archive includes 300 Gigabytes of samples of soundscapes from seven Latin American contexts.

The collection and dissemination of sound data for subsequent use in artistic and research projects fits perfectly within the raison d’etre of Caos->Sonoscop. Through international sound-based artistic interventions, this project aims to raise awareness of these changes, firstly in the vicinity of the sites where the sound samples are recorded, and secondly in all the different cultural centres in which the artists involved in the international call for participation organised by Orquestra del Caos work. Furthermore, its essence is to try to introduce scientific methodologies into arts practice on one hand, and to encourage science to look outside of itself and use approaches borrowed from other contexts on the other.

Thanks for letting us know about this - however, if the only reason you have an account is to promote your podcasts, we do have rules against doing so (aka 'spam' accounts).

well as it is valuable information (not only for me for what I can tell, and maybe for you too, JR) it does not meet the category "spam" (not valuable information). just a thought

Yeah but I'm not sure if each podcast, even as good as they are, deserve a thread. Maybe a megathread with posts every time RWM has a new podcast?

absolutely, one thread = better organization and documentation.

just let me add this: I'm not criticizing jr's post on this matter (who am I to do so ?).

Im aware that his running this place for quite a while, and that it takes effort to keep the shitstorm outside, and dealing with special 'egos' over the years becomes tiresome. But maybe our internet attitude is shifting, and we tend to see exchange of information in a negative way like 'spam' 'promotion' and for 'profit' or even 'theft', rather than in the spirit of the old internets.

peace

No, you're certainly entitled to your opinion, but the whole point behind having an account at WATMM is to contribute to the community through discussion and interaction - if someone created an account simply to promote their site/blog/podcast/event/etc., and never bother actually engaging in conversation with the rest of the community, what's the point? That's what I was referring to in my post.

By no means do I want to discourage people coming here and promoting their music-related endeavours, but I'd also expect them to want to contribute to discussion and not simply want to use us as virtual corkboard for their announcements.

Hope that clears things up a bit.

thanks for clarifying! I agree: thats what a board is for. luckily watmm is far away from being a 'spam n go' board.

on a private (offtopic) opinion node : the mixture of different users 'makes' its charm.

you have those topic creators (with all kinds of quantities and qualities, from profound interesting topics to trivia) and topic responders

(with the same q&q). The balance of the mixture determines the health status, as far as my uneducated guess goes.

Can't remember specific details, but I've seen a networking scheme of fb user activity. And it was quite astonishing that there were just a few

megalomaniac 'content' generators, with lots of in and out going activity arrows. the rest was just following, responging, sort of thing.

It seems to me that the first mentioned are naturally 'born' as soon as there is a favourable environment. So fb probably is very keen on creating and maintaining such an environment (games, and what not). Pretty interesting matter, sociology in general

I wholly agree with this. JR, in the context of what I bolded, could you speak to Troon's shitty posting behaviour in the new releases subforum (list of grievances here)? The rampant topic-starting is pretty much corkboard to a tee, yet he's a moderator and refuses to divulge interests when it's clear he's being compensated for psuedo-grassroots promotion.

I understand and totally respect your point but the intention of these posts has always been sharing contents which I consider interesting for the community. RWM is a non-profit project and if any discussion is started, I always try to get the artists, curators involved and provide further information. The project is quite extense and we only post here the music-related contents, so honestly the idea has been never spaming rather than sharing and following/expanding any conversation generated by these threads. Because of the variety of the subjects we deal with (from generative music to musicology, sound collecting, sound art) is the main reason why I always separate the different podcasts as threads.
