How movie theatres should be laid out.

old folks are quiet? sounds like sarcasm but i can't tell. old folks explain the plot to each other during quiet scenes in loud voices

dome idea = yes, although it seems to be in view of the screen for the front few rows

anyone under 18 goes in the dome!

I think most theater experience problems would be solved with headsets attached to the seats, or at least jacks to bring your own if you wish...

But with headsets you don't get the SURROUND SOUND experience. I don't often go to the cinema but when I've gone there hasn't been any disturbing elements. maybe I've missed them or people know how to behave or paying almost 10 euros for a ticket keep the riffraff out.

the biggest illusion is yourself

I tend to just go to the first showing on a sunday a couple of weeks after a movie premieres. That usually cuts out the teens and other assorted idiots.

Am I the only person that doesn't find The Oatmeal funny?

Good to vent about annoying people at the theatre though. That shit is terrible. Especially the kids/babies. They're the worst.

Pff, rather decent sound with my own phones than the either barely audible or too heavy bass/badly eq'd sound like you get in most cinemas. Plus despite being a technology that's been available for got knows how many decades, I'm yet to hear surround sound used in anything but the occasional door shutting, engine noise or bullet ricocheting - It really seems like an afterthought rather than something that could really add to the atmosphere, lazy is what it is.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

You are aware there are true 7.1 surround sound headsets now, right?

Agreed - I think games use surround sound better than most films, and I think the discreet sounds you get in a home theatre experience are better than in the cinema due to the vast distances you're from the speakers.

And this coming from someone who always goes for the "sweet spot" in the centre of the cinema.

So here's what you do:

Buy good TV

Buy Blu-Ray

Dim the lights

Watch at home

Enjoy film moar!

Indeed - I would much rather sit at home and watch movies in my setup than go and pay a premium to put up with rude fuckers around me. The new cinema model should have an option to have a private viewing via streaming at home for a premium price, like 50USD or something - it already costs that much for a family of four to see a film, so why not?

Of course, the cinemas might have an issue with this...

There's nothing in there about the fuckers who go to the cinema just to eat a 5 course fucking dinner.

Oh yes, just wait until the quite part when the film's starting to open your 7kg bag of Doritos you inconsiderate shitbags!!

i don't usually have trouble with people talking cause ill say something insulting quietly but know they can hear, and since most people are pussies they just end up shutting up. my problem is having to sit behind someone who is constantly stretching and putting they're arms in the air, or worse, my face. what happens to those people?

I tend to have good luck in that regard as well. Or I just go here: http://drafthouse.com/

The staff is great, there's a huge food and beer selection (I don't even think they serve typical junk food), they play old movie clips and youtube videos before the previews kick in. The tickets themselves are comparable to any major theater. They have a no talking and no cell phone policy, allowing reasonable cheering, laughter, and such but only when appropriate. They kick out anyone who doesn't adhere to the rules after one warning. I've seen it go down and it's fucking awesome. I hope more spread across the country. They also play a lot of indie and cult films and host all sorts of cool events and showings. Surely there's comparable theaters as well, just not aware of them myself.
