summer beers

Recommended Posts

so for tonight i went for the below selection.. have also been to the pub drinking a couple of blue moons before heading home with this lot to get stuck into some serious internetz and a couple of spliffs.

starting with the moonraker - it's got a lot of bite this one - full of flavour, nice and hoppy and feels quite light on the tongue. interesting caramel pear finish. 7/10.

I fell in love with Saint Arnold's after visiting their brewery in Houston last year. Been drinking this lately.

Saint-Arnold-Fancy-Lawnmower-Beer-fb.jpg

  Quote

Debuted August 2000.

We developed this beer because we wanted a slightly delicate beer in our portfolio, and one with a crisper, hoppier character than the Texas Wheat. We settled on Kölsch for the style.

When it came to naming the beer, we performed our typical expensive, highly sophisticated consumer research program. We made a sheet of paper with five potential beer names on it: Select, Blonde, Kölsch, Golden and Fancy Lawnmower Beer. We then went around to any parties or bars we were at and handed out these sheets to have people rate their perception of the quality of the beer with each name on a scale of 1 to 5. If we just averaged the totals, Golden would have won. People rated Fancy Lawnmower Beer either a 1 or a 5, but all anyone wanted to talk about, no matter what they rated it, when they handed their questionnaire in was Fancy Lawnmower Beer.

This beer has a distinctive floral hop aroma. This, combined with the power of suggestion leads many people to inform us that this beer tastes like grass. No it doesn't, silly. And stop smoking so much of it.

Research has also found this beer to be perfect for tailgating at Texans game. Especially on those crisp, fall days at the beginning of the football season in August. In Houston. In a paved parking lot.

Malted Barley:

True to style, this beer is brewed with just pale malted barley and a dash of malted wheat. We import the world's best pils and wheat malts to create the light yet rich malt body.

Hops:

We use a single hop variety in this beer: Hallertauer Hallertauer (that is its name, not a typo). Four separate additions to the brew kettle create the delicate flavor and aroma of this classic hop.

Summer Lightning's ace. My favourite summer beer is probably Oakham Ales' Mompesson's Gold...hard to find though, also only found on draft in pubs..

edit: hmm, just looked on their website and it seems it's only available october - december (so not really a summer beer lol) but always used to to available in the summer from memory. maybe they've chnaged when they brew it or something.. still, it's bloody lovely beer, look out for it.

My local Fullers pub has a new beer which I was going to try last night but it was off. Anyone tried this?:

Apparently not something you want more than one or two of.

I need to get more into beers, but seeing as I'm back in the States I am now under the drinking age. Oddly enough, I don't mind shitty beers; it's shit whiskey I won't drink.

As far as good beers go, I like Dead Guy ale quite a bit, although it isn't a summer ale. Not an expert yet at all, but I do like good American beers.

I think American beers might be a bit of a revolution, a country once known for Budweiser can take the beer world by storm.

Aldi has cheap Sam Adams!

Polishing off a significant stash of Grolsch swing-tops because I want the empty bottles for homebrew.

Had a couple of gems last night in the pub:

I've been really into Innis & Gunn lately. It's got flavor but it's also pretty fresh tasting.

Also this Finnish beer Käki is one of my favorites, but it seems hard to find. It's flavoured with juniper.

Indeed, our weekly shop has gone from £50 to £35 (including random tools and garden shit!).

Yes! The Innis and Gunn is amazing beer. Strong, full bodied, lots of flavour/s... My only complaint is that it's expensive... $3.69 a bottle here =(

I tend to pick up a different bottle of ale from Sainburys every week. This week I picked up this Black Sheep pale ale and I gotta tell you, it was reet triff.

I love wheatbeers/weisbier but not much of an expert on the smaller, less well known brews. I've only had the half or dozen or so that Sainsburys and Tesco dictate to me.

I'd love to go to Germany just to travel round on a bicycle drinking loads of them, an educate myself lol.
