Aefx
Today I encountered Glasgow 2005 set on YouTube and as I already mentioned in comment " Interesting stuff is that on soundboard recording the melodic stuff (warm pads in this one) is almost unhearable. That's why i prefer montreal recording of this live set (not soundboard). There is such a melodic moments (like the track on 30 min) that simply don't exist on Glasgow recording. They in fact exist but it sounds like ghosts of that melodic pad beauty." I watched this video: And it made me upload my favorite recording of 2005 live set on youtube: And link on gett to get the mp3 as well: http://ge.tt/88WcN3K/v/0 For me it's best expirienced as audience recording. Thank you for your attention, bye! danshoebridge
You should probably check out the Hemsby recording - it's the 2nd soundboard from the Untilted tour and is a lot more melodic than Glasgow. It's got these amazing droney synth chords over the augmatic disport section, slightly different to the Montral set but just as good. Blir
I prefer Glasgow set to Hemsby. Hemsby's alright, there's nice early Quaristice bits in there, but Glesgeh takes it away for me. The first 15mins of that set are amazing, punishing stuff. I do like some of the extra melodies you get later in the Hemsby set though. Amen Lare
If only other tour sets were recorded in audience just like this. That's a revelation. futureimage
Wow nice, don't think I've heard this recording before. Here's hoping there are more Quaristice and Oversteps boots that come out like this. Guest jasondonervan
Sharing is caring! Excellent set, sounding a lot more melodic than the Birmingham leg of the Oversteps tour I attended... that was a brain-melter of a set! blos
It's done the rounds before, but I must admit I forgot about it having focused on the Glasgow recording. It's really great and gives you something the soundboard lacks. Melbourne 2010 remains my favourite, brilliant sound, audience, wizard laugh, and of course the massive bonus that I was THERE. ottobahn
I have another version of this 2005 Montreal set that is VBR vs. 256 and has fuller bass, but looks like it's from the same source. Maybe this one is a remaster? Anyone know the history? I think I prefer this one: http://ge.tt/6vPP6kK/v/0?c Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide ottobahn's signature Hide all signatures Last.fm Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/74608-best-2005-live-set-recording/#findComment-1851534 Share on other sites
Sam
Although sound quality wise Montreal is by far the best, Dour is probably the most kickin. Perfect BPM for that set, and the acoustics are wicked in that venue. Content wise though, London SEone is undoubtedly the best. Unbelievably heavy and has the best improvisations. I would KILL to hear the finer details of that mid section (after the chenc9 riff). Shame about the piss poor quality though :( Oversteps wise....... Melbourne has unreal quality, but Domino is too epic for me to choose anything else Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/74608-best-2005-live-set-recording/#findComment-1853906 Share on other sites

soundwave
my Cowon mp3 player has a basic reverb FX (dunno why) but putting a little on the very dry Glasgow and Hemsby soundboard sets really brings out the use of higher frequencies in the percussion and depth to the bass end. I'm guessing the sounds of the set were mixed with room acoustics in mind and is a little more true to how the lads intended it to be heard and makes the whole recording a more balanced experience. Well worth trying out with a basic room reverb.
