I had posted this on the old board, before it died, and I got a lot of feedback (thanks!) but I just figured I'd post it again for anyone who might have missed it.

This was my final project at school, its a 20 min piece, in three movements (the mp3 is all the movements together, so I've included a time frame for each movement within the track). I did all of the sound design and composing. If you like glitch, ambient, soundcollage, minimalism, and stuff, check it out. Its not a typical slow moving ambient piece, it moves forward and develops a good amount.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy, if you decide to brave the 20 mins!

Movement One: 0:00-4:50

Movement Two: 4:50-11:49

Movement Three: 11:49-19:11

hey, thanks biggie!

chloroplast: well, I dont know really. Probably not until summer. I just have so much stuff I gotta do before I graduate in may. Im currently working on a piano sonata, which is taking alot of my time, and soon Ill be working on an orchestral piece. doesnt leave much time for writing electronic stuff.

If I can squeeze any time in to work on stuff, Ill be sure to share it with you guys though :)

So I just found out that I'm getting some of this put on a CD. Our department does a yearly CD of student work, and I submited a 4-5 min track that had segments from each movement, and it got accepted! So, weeee, I get to go to a CD release party, and get lots of free copies etc.

Just thought I'd share, if anyone was in the least bit interested.

damn, I just got some more good news! This is nuts.

There is this famous hardware designer/mixing engineer/producer/mastering engineer (and probably other stuff too) coming to the college for a week, to do lectures etc.

Well, my teacher (that advised me while I wrote this track) emailed me today, to say that the department wanted to have him do a seminar on surround mixing, and that this peice was chosen by the deperment to be mixed in surround by this guy!

It's not 100%. The department OKed it, but they still have to show him the piece, as see if he wants to do it, but it seems pretty likely. I'm really excited! I'm going to here this in surround!

However, this means I have a lot of work to do... because when I made this, I was using my powerbook, and so my CPU was very limited... so I had to write it using like 10 seperate logic files. I would then record the audio from the file, and open it in a new file, and work around that, and repeat. This means a lot of the glitchy stuff, is all on one stereo track, and I need to go back, and reconstruct them to have all the sounds be on seperate individual tracks, so they can be panned in the surround setup.

So I got a bit of a fuckload of work to go back and do! But I'm really excited!

Kind of funny that suddenly, 7 months later, all this stuff is happening with this piece!

Sorry, I'm just excited, and wanted to share.

That is SOOOOO awesome! I'd loooooove to hear this in surround... like in a big auditorium or something (where I presume it will be played)... especially the glitchy transition between the first and second movement... I'm sure that'll be really sweet.

Yeah, I'd love to see what he can do with it. Only thing is, I'll only be able to hear it this one time, as I don't have a surround setup :(

I'll definately keep it though, so someday in the future, I can listen somewhere :)

Guest Iain C

This is simply outstanding... utterly amazing, never heard anything quite like it posted here before. I hope you got top marks in whatever course it was you did, because this is fantastic and I can only imagine how engrossing and involving it'd sound in a proper surround mix.

thanks guys!

Ian C: it was my final project, so it was whatever I wanted to do. It can be anything from a 3 song demo, to making software instruments. I wanted to do something like this for awhile, so I figured I might as well do it for school, so I wont feel guilty working on it all the time, since its actually for school.

max:
