My XBOX 360 - "The Creativity Tomb" 2006 - 2012

When will I play Dark Souls again?

When will I have the chance to actually to know more about Dragon's Dogma?

When will I be able to camp xXMODx420xSnipezXx for 8 consecutive matches again?

When will I...

How can I...

R.I.P :-(

LOL, should have bought a PS3 - actually, now's a good time - the money you'll save not paying for Live will easily pay for a PS3 in a few years...

Never will I stoop so low as to wallow in the pit that is PS3.

I would rather get bed bugs.

I would rather be tickle tortured by naked old men.

I would rather be drenched in butter and be set upon by house cats.

I will never be a turncoat.

Except for that time that I borrowed a PS3 from a friend and played Dark Souls. That was pretty good.

Wow, your box lasted six years? I've gone through 7 or 8 since launch (yeah, not smart sending me busted refurbs as replacements there, Microsoft). Thankfully my slim box has behaved itself, although that's probably more down to limited use than the improved manufacturing process.

Yeah. Not quite sure how it lasted so long. I can only imagine that because I go for prolonged periods of not playing it every few months, due to traveling or finishing up albums etc, that I was able to extend its life. I'd like to think it was because I took good care of it...but that would be a lie.

I only use mine for CAVE shoot 'em ups now. As for Microsoft's strategy for the dying embers of the 360's life? They can shove a Kinect up their arse sideways if they think I'm buying into that particular vision of where gaming is headed.

I have never understood Cave's affinity for the 360 - is it because the way they code their games it's easier to port to 360 than PS3? You'd think (especially in Japan where PS3 is the dominant HD console) they'd want to release on PS3 just for the increased sales alone.

Unless Microsoft is paying them to stay exclusive...

If memory serves, I think it was down to Sony wanting to push the PS3 as a graphical powerhouse, so the idea of having 'old' looking games (ie shoot 'em ups) didn't really fit the bill. Microsoft didn't throw money at CAVE. Due to poor reception to the 360 in Japan, developers were cut some slack in terms of the costs of development units and such, which provided a home for more niche titles that don't even make it outside of Japan.

CAVE have a fervent fanbase (predominantly domestic), so they know that sales would be generated regardless of which format they focus on. They've been pushing hard on iOS over the past 18 months, but it hasn't translated well to their bottom line:

As reported by Andriasang, the company expects sales of ¥1.3 billion for the period 1st June to 30th November 2011, down from the ¥1.4 billion it forecast back in July. It anticipates that shortfall will contribute to an operating loss of ¥31 million, whereas it had expected profits of ¥10 million.

As a result, it has decided to devote more of its resources to social games. Development on a number of other (undisclosed) projects has apparently been put on hold.

When I got the red rings I just called someone at Microsoft. They told me to mail it in and they sent me a new one a couple weeks later.

All is not lost.

I am out of warranty. they said to have it fixed would cost me $120. I could just go to Gamestop and get a refurbished one for that much...and I imagine Xbox would just end up sending back a refurbed one any how. A friend of mine has a line on someone locally who may be able to fix it for cheap. I would do it my self, but I lack patience in these matters.

iOS would be the last place I would play a shump on.

I am sorry for your loss. when mine finally red ringed after 7 or 8 good years, I threw it off the roof and bought a slim. the case didn't break on impact so I beat it with the leg of an old organ for a while to expose its circuity entrails. it was my way of saying thank you and goodbye.

i've got one sitting under the TV, it's been turned on maybe a dozen times since we got it. So it's pristine, well apart from a layer of dust.

Whatever you do, don't towel trick it back on. Will only last for a minute and you might damage the internals indefinitely. Better search for a soldering lord, that can clamp, reflow fix it for a cheap price. 30 euro's around here. Did mine a while ago and got 6 months of life back, unfortunately bust again after a faulty mod job.
