Alright WATMM.....

My old headphones are biting the dust. They are technics RPDH-1200 (don't laugh!)... My main sources for audio with my headphones are my iPod classic 160gb (no headphone amp) and my sansui AU-999 amplifier at my computer.

I'm looking to upgrade but there are many options between sony, sennheiser, AKG, Grado, etc.....

I have $600 to spend and this can be between headphones, or headphones and a headphone amp (provided it works with the ipod...).

I'm looking for your experiences with headphones etc to recommend me an item or combo of items in this price point.

I like as much dynamic range as possible, of course (seems a silly comment but I see people buying nearly bass-free audiotechnica products etc) maybe a little bit heavy on the bass and light on the mid and treble (I can EQ it out anyway).... Preferably 0-20hz as the low end range, aka nothing higher than 20hz for the minimum frequency response.

As much details as you can give me would be incredible and don't be shy to add products in a lower prize range if you think they are competitive.

Cheers guys, thanks.

PS I'm drunk again

My friend has a pair of $700 cans that are OMG SO FUCKING AMAZING sounds are crisp and spacious, great for audio production. The name of the brand totally slips me right now. Sorry, shit post I know.

Don't buy sennheisers. They've had a long history of pissing me off with poor build quality. Once they were good.

Also, investing in a sound card etc. is just as important imO.

Did you have your foot on the cable while standing up? I've killed several Sennheisers this way, but this stopped after switching to one with a detachable cord

For something technology-related I doubt a 3 year old thread is going to be as relevant as asking now. Plus Stephen's time is valuable, why should he trawl through watmm's shitty search feature looking for what can be found by asking realniggaz?

Audiophile series from Audio Technica. I have never heard better cans. Although, I have always wanted a pair of the sony's that rich and grandy have been seen using live for years, they look so damn comfy!!

Oh don't talk to me about their cables. And how much they charge for inferior replacements, driving you to ebay for something batter.

I would include this in my purchase:

http://www.head-fi.org/products/fiio-e17/reviews/

Very versatile

That leaves you with enough to pick up some Senn 650s (open design) or DENON AH-D2000s (closed design)

There have been threads like this in the last 2 months..Headphone technology doesn't make leaps and bounds very quickly at all.. I would rather buy a make & model of cans that has been highly regarded, solid, tested and compared for over 4 years than a new model.

@ roasty, those look comfy, I tried the ATH-W5000's the other week and was blown away. Quality cans from those guys, but a little over stephens 600$ limit.

Hay noob, cool story. READ THE FUCKING RULES.

EDIT:

When there is so much content on this forum about advice for headphones, amps, soundcards, digital/analog converters etc. relevant to his question that he could have his questions answered in minutes with even how horrible the WATMM search function is and not to mention google. Your pushing down less redundant threads, wasting peoples time they are so generously throwing away to a currently lazy inefficient short sighted twat waffle.

AKG K701s are on sale at Amazon right now. Get those plus an amp and never look back. Wait do you need them for outside the home listening?
