I hope this means you should be able to have them both before the end of August. top sounds i.m.o , hope u enjoy em too. Jodey has a sequel double album to follow directly afterwards, 'Steel Erector', together with Pierre Bastien's new album and video, 'Machinations'."

Nice. You going to both the performance and workshop? I think Hoodie and I will be able to attend the workshop but not the performance (need to get to Chicago for Squarepusher that night!).

Yeah, we are. If the workshop isn't too packed (I somehow kind of doubt it will be...) then I will keep an eye out for you guys and say hi.

Jealous about SP, but obviously I can't complain

Performance was IDM as fuck. did a bit called "playing with the dead" where he looped samples from deceased early 20th century musicians, alongside rhythms, noises, and progressions of organ notes all produced by his little performance machine. I don't really know how to describe it, but it was some of the most atmospheric stuff I've ever heard, and I sincerely hope that he does a release around it.

sounds quite similar to my memories of Bangface.... it was a special experience for sure, definitely eager to hear his new album!

Yeah I was thinking that too. The video samples of the drummer and that.

He was fantastic at BF. Though I could tell a lot of the crowd were baffled.

so this will be out at the end of this month says boomkat..

* Pierre Bastien is a musician (releasing since mid 1980’s) who works with his own unique, self-built Meccano orchestra. This is far too simply put though, the musicians can be paperclips, insects, model birds, tubes or an old tonear perhaps. One perspective would be that he achieves his music via the construction of machines, or perhaps it’s the other way round?

* Having a profound love of old jazz and traditional World music, also a professional Bass player, he is noteable for sometimes picking up a trumpet or horn for accompaniment to the ‘Mecanium’ orchestra. Nowadays, on YouTube, you might find a robotic MIDI controllable guitar that can outplay any human, or a computer that will endlessly compose drum and bass and who knows what the future holds there. But Pierre Bastien has been evolving his own aims/methods/results/conclusions since he was a young boy and you will hear that his album is full of that natural charm, peace and purity; although after decades of exploration and experimentation, the music has achieved considerable sophistication.

* Pierre has already released 2 acclaimed albums with Rephlex; this one is accompanied by a bonus DVD and, although much of the source footage for that is lower resolution, once can get much closer to the full experience and enjoyment of his concerts and installations all over the world. Granparents and Grandkids and all in between will get something from this release. A chance to see and hear the machines in action, up close.

* As usual, all the audio track titles are palindromes, to echo some movements of the instruments.
