Type II cassettes - where to buy?

go to an opshop and look for classical/jazz dubbed blank cassettes... people with doctor's handwriting or with complex labelling systems. they often tend to be type II and you can get them for nothing.

Yeah I actually have acquired a lot of older Type IIs from thrift stores in the form of old mixtapes. You can get a bulk eraser if you want to wipe them clean. (It's fun hearing people's mixes to boot, I digitize them before I tape over them) For the most part they'll sound a lot better than new type I tapes. Also, I have a half bought about a dozen new unsealed copies simply from browsing the thrift stores. No idea if you'll have the same luck in the UK at such places.

If you want unsealed packs, especially vintage "new old stock," I'd browse ebay...

Yeah, I think I have a few options now, thanks all. It's interesting how wildly the prices sellers think these cassettes are worth. I understand that most are now deadstock, but I'm sure there's still a few million of them still out there to be bought!

It's quite hit or miss. Same with decks - most on craigslist or ebay are overpriced "flipping" efforts, but there are honest sellers out there. Patience seems to be key before you either find one at a thrift store or garage sell or simply a good deal online.

You might browse this forum to get a better idea on what qualifies as a "good" deal: http://www.tapeheads.net
