Earl Sweatshirt - Doris

So, I've never been a big Odd Future fan, but I've always thought of Earl as the one with clear talent of the bunch and have kept my eye on him a little. His new upcoming full length seems it could actually be really good. Seems he's matured and will be dropping the OF shock-rap tactics, and displaying some real content.

"Im just trying to make pretty music. Everyone whose favorite song off EARL was epar or whatever might be pretty bummed. Everyone with 666 or KTA or some sort of stupid hashtag like 'hey look im crazy' in their bio might be pretty bummed too. I anticipate a loss of fans. I also anticipate gaining some... I fucking love how it sounds. And uhh. Thats what matters... Im gonna go out on a limb and say that you can hear the progression."

Also seems to have some pretty strong collaborators, including Samiyam, Thundercat, The Neptunes, The Alchemist... also rumors FlyLo will produce some of the tracks, and I've heard RZA lent a verse to it as well.

I hope Earl blows up and leaves Tyler in the dust...

Yeah, I grabbed the leak, it didn't quite live up to the hype... The beats are pretty good, I'll give it that, but a lot of the features are pretty weak (ugh Tyler, and Mac MIller wtf?... Even RZA's appearance was nothing special) and the way they come in first in a lot of tracks really kinda pushes Earl away from being the highlight of the album (though he is.) I feel there are some strong tracks but there's a lot of filler and flaws to that drag it down. I think the whole OF gang is really kind acting as an anchor towards Earl's growth, I still hear that potential there when he really opens up (Burgundy, Chum, Centurion.) He needs to get past his loyalty to his homies and really truly go off on solo shit with his own beats and production, or at least not so much OF influence. I think only then will he really truly start to shine. It seems like on this album he felt obligated to feature a lot of the crew because he hadn't been around when they were all featuring on each other's tracks. I'll never be an OF fan, but I still see potential in Earl he just needs to break free of OF.

It's not terrible, in fact I do enjoy a handful of tracks off it, but I'm left feeling that it could have been better with less features and such... I'd give it a 7/10

Just finished the stream... was very disappointed with the opening few tracks but everything got much better as it progressed.

pretty much this. i've always found their immaturity and (slight mob) mentality extremely off putting- to the point where i only listened to a handful of their songs (usually the popular ones). i just can't stand them as people especially after reading this

i don't have a problem with punk aesthetics, a rebellious attitude/not giving a fuck or whatever. but assholes no. and these kids just come off as being the biggest assholes in the game.

I've really liked all the tracks that have been put up so far, so am eager to check this out. I'm hoping that OF in general start to slow down with their releases, or at least shorten them. There's killer stuff on every album they do, whether it be Tyler, Mellowhype, Hodgy or their OF tapes. But there's not enough quality control. Domo Genesis' album with Alchemist is probably the best (recent) release and part of that is it's so short and to the point. There was 17 fucking songs on Wolf... too many, which is a shame cause there's so great work hidden amongst the filler.
