French electronica duo Spitzer turn to Agoria's InFiné label for the release of their debut album, a compelling, hard/to/define but spectacular listening experience...

If you would take the key elements of progressive, tech-house, and 80s minimal wave and blend it with warm soundscape synth waves, Spitzer's music is what roughly would be the outcome. After toying around with pop and punk in their teens, French brothers Damien and Matthieu decided to turn to digital equipment to release their angst, in turn leading to the release of a number of very impressive records. However, it is their debut album that really documents the musical development of the boys.

Soaked in depth, mystery, melancholy and hedonism, 'The Call' is a mature and very well produced album that mixes electronic sounds to remnants of their prog-rock period, creating a very atmospheric listening experience in the process. Clever guitar/electro mash-up such as 'Madigan', 'Clunker' and 'Vor' are echoes of Spitzer's former sound, but it's the strictly-electronic material in between these tracks that make this an outstanding release. 'Breaking The Waves', 'The Call', and the amazing Björk-tinged 'Too Hard To Breathe' are the most impressive cuts here. Revolving around thick, dark synthesizers, roaring bass and surprising twists, these tracks make Spitzer sound like the unholy child of Trentemöller, Anthony Rother, Agoria and John Digweed. Yes, that's a pretty wild combo, but put on any of these tracks and you will understand.

Verdict: Spitzer’s debut album has become a compelling chunk of organic and highly mysterious music with plenty of diversity to keep even the most demanding listener entertained till the end. The inventive composition of each track, topped with a fat overall production make this a debut album to be very, very proud of.
