randomAmateur
yo I'm defintly enjoying to check out the stuff on this forum I feel a little bit like a fool lol I realized that my working progress is more a training progress... All my songs are 1 time sessions mostly just 30m-2hour you will hear that.... I have no clue about filters and stuff I'm just modulating the single sounds. Long talk... I have tons of mp3 but the most of them are really -really- whack... I'm gonna link the ones I like, but you can checkout my profile and find many more. http://soundcloud.com/just-a-random-amateur/transmobo this one is going to change for sure, I guess I'll cut it down so just skip the first minute :P http://soundcloud.com/just-a-random-amateur/8589sl1 ♥ loops arps and all that neat stuff! http://soundcloud.com/just-a-random-amateur/yobo2 aciiid ALready linked here: http://soundcloud.com/just-a-random-amateur/49sl1 ---- this http://soundcloud.com/just-a-random-amateur/m-c http://soundcloud.com/just-a-random-amateur/verstaubtes-foto this one got uploaded 1 month ago but not hits.... Guest kokeboka
Some of your patches sound exactly like VST factory presets - I know you started a thread about this on EKT and I know your feelings about this, but for me personally this is an immediate turn off. I don't mean to sound nasty, but it does make your music sound cheap and bland. Learning the ins and outs of a simple synth isn't difficult at all if you put time into it, and tweaking your sounds up from scratch will make the musicmaking process much more enjoyable for you. Your programming also sounds somewhat stiff; I don't know if you own a MIDI controller, it would help you program looser and interesting chord progressions, melodies and such. randomAmateur
Thx mate! I have no Midicontroler, my synth is to big and doesn't fit in at the moment... everything is done with the mouse! I don't even have a proper Soundcard, I'm using the buildin soundchip on my pc keyboard, is that of matter? @Presets you're right, some of the stuff is done very fast and it's alot based on the preset sounds. I'm not on fruity for decade so the preset sounds are still "new" sounds to me... (1-2 years now) can I change the tone on the presets? Like everything starts on a C, not good for my taste... as more I do as more I start to bother :) Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide randomAmateur's signature Hide all signatures PACE! Guest Frankie5fingers
itll take some time to get away from presets. i started where you did, with FL and i still use it now and again. but instead of making music what i did was simply make sounds. i grabbed a preset from one of the VST and messed with the plugin until i got a new sound. a trick i like to use is find a preset with the qualities of a sound you're trying to make and start from there. also, adding effects go a long way too. youll never just make/find the sound you want, youve got to mess around to find it. this will help you understand the program and before long youll be making your own sounds. like the others have said, its so much fun to make your own sounds. i actually like making new sounds more than even writting music around them. i listend to some of your stuff, and like others said "its too preset sounding." that being said, you have some good composition skills. i bet when you really start learning the ropes youll make some pretty good stuff. randomAmateur
Thanks for the comment. Now I have a question... should I still upload "bad stuff" and post it on here or not? ---- I want to say that mostly 50-90% is really preset(ish), but I try to make atleast 1 sound special and focus on that sound... I need the beat in the backround or it's no big fun to me... I live in a very small flat within a house - that seems to be made out of paper, I have to use headphones. I'm not calm if I don't hear a Kick/base/deep-sound :( ---- Topic -- my skills, stuff 'n shit! Don't read if you don't like the personal chatter or smilys. ---- Reveal hidden contents Quote the other thing in my mind... I understand poeple using fruity loops who say "I don't like your presets shit" because they know FL. I don't agree with the general "preset is always really bad" at all, I think the fruity presets are kinda flat and alot of my sounds are. Maybe I just need the experience and I'll say "preset is always bad" @ 2015 I think the sound is bad because it's flat and not because it's preset.... this is just a symbolic thing and no matter what you say the endresult is kinda the same, I just don't like symbolic I like logics. :P First of all I'm having fun, but I don't think that I'm any special talented, I think I might take even longer to learn stuff etc. but I think I have another "slower" understanding. In the 2-6 month I tried to play piano (back in the days when I was 14years old), my teacher kept telling me "you always hit the right notes but there is not a single one you played correctly yet, it's still very nice but it is meant to play like - and the teacher played it - I got very confused, every lesson I got more confused because on every lesson I thought "yes this time I do it like it was supposed to be" - that never happend. Well... I stopped being productive and started to do the WEEED tang! End of story. Maybe I'm never able to play a mozart even if I have the papers for it!! but maybe one day I find my own sounds and tbh that's the only road atm that encourages me to go on.. : Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide randomAmateur's signature Hide all signatures PACE! randomAmateur
5Fingers, your linked sound (Bewegung Records Akron, United States) is kinda epic... would cop it on 12" LP - maybe even a single. I try to cop LPs no 12" singles because I don't have the money, and I already love 7" that's a nerd/collecting thing. sergeantk
first off welcome to WATMM. I guess there isn't a whole lot to be said that hasn't already been said except practice a lot. Mixing needs some work, since you're new-ish to producing I can suggest some resources to check out... first, be sure to learn your DAW (FL Studio for you) inside and out. for mixing, read up Mixing Audio by Roey Izhaki - its fairly comprehensive and not too intimidating Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide sergeantk's signature Hide all signatures My music (zanderone) Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/75706-biggest-newb-on-the-site/#findComment-1878629 Share on other sites

kinski
not to be a dick, but since you're new to this and admit you're not that good - why share it now? you have only one shot at first impression. your stuff sounds exactly like i expected it to sound - you're getting there. and it's cool. i'm about halfway through 'getting there' myself so i know the drill. bu it's just.. why the impatience? take it easy, man. randomAmateur
your right man. thanks for compliments and listening. I was pretty shocked on the compliments on Tokilove, I even gave it a name (which I don't like anymore). The guy that got me to download FL never puts anything up... he's not pro neither but sometimes he's good imo I let my fruity rotten for about 2 years, such a shame. I try automation now @ newlevel * Can you give me any advice on how to change from doing everything in 1 pattern into tracklist? LoL The question alone is pretty embrassing, but maybe there are some "tricks" Edited September 18, 2012 by randomAmateur Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Hide randomAmateur's signature Hide all signatures PACE! Is it possible to have the automation seperated / only on the song? Did I get it wrong? Or just clone the same pattern to have the automations seperated? MisterE
i think your stuff sounds fine for the kind of time it sounds like you've been doing it. and i'd say your description of it being part of a kind of 'training process' sounds like what i hear. the compositions definitely need worked on, so that tracks have just the right amount of progression into the different places they go, and the time that the new segments come in or old ones end, all that kind of stuff needs work. but some of the actual 'notes' and sounds/ideas you have are kind of interesting. it's like you're experimenting, and you found some cool ideas here and there. the real trick would be to pare the tracks down to those cool ideas, cut other stuff out, add new cool parts, and then get the structure of the transitions and when they happen down. that's maybe the hardest part. i think you could definitely be making some cool stuff with more focus on that aspect. as far as the preset issue is concerned, i mean, i've never heard anyone complain when richard d james uses a 303, even though they almost always sound the same. or how about basic sine/square waves, if someone uses those, is that also bad? i do think you should learn synth sound design, but the notes you play with them is more important, in the end.
