Guest onesixoneight
My work takes me all round the UK usually but my home station/office is 81 miles from my house. Thankfully the company provides the transport and fuel! Sometimes I wish I could work from home. eugene
if i draw a straight line from my home to my workplace in google earth it's something like 9km, getting to work using public transport takes something from 1 to 1.5 hours, it's insane and it pisses me of every day anew. Friendly Foil
I don't know about the distance, but it takes around 35 minutes each way. It's a nightmare, to be honest, for a number of reasons: 1. Loud people. I wear earbud headphones, and even though they keep out some of the noise, it's nowhere near enough. After nine hours of being surrounded by noisy assholes, the last thing I need is more of them on the way home. 2. People who feel their bag deserves an entire seat of its own. Why do this? Also, people who place their feet on the seat next to them. Dicks. So yeah, it's not really the buses that pisses me off, but my fellow commuters. It's great.. The only good thing about it, is that it lets you listen to music while looking out the window for half an hour. That's pretty sweet. Guest Iain C
For most of past three years, I travelled to work in Southwark via the Jubilee Line from Stratford. Door to door, it took me just less than an hour. The tube is horrible at the best of times, and at rush hour it's appalling, but because Stratford is at the end of the line I could always get a seat in the mornings. Not so the evenings. But about a month ago I moved house, so now I'm in East Greenwich. One of the benefits of this is that I no longer need to take the fucking tube to get to work. Instead I take a Southeastern train which gets me in to Waterloo East in about 20 minutes. My complete journey takes about 35 minutes. It's nice that it's a little quicker, even though it's roughly the same distance. But what I REALLY like is the fact that it's above-ground. Looking out the window is very important to me. Plus, because it doesn't go through Canary Wharf, there's a considerably smaller financial-industry-dickhead presence, making for a more cordial and pleasant experience all-round. Any cunt working in the City will probably take the Cannon Street service rather than the Charing Cross one I catch, so you generally get a better bunch of people on board. Guest Iain C
As for cost, just shy of £1,800 a year on Zone 1-3 Travelcards. I rarely leave Zone 3. In fact, I'm not exactly sure what's out there. Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/75925-the-daily-commute/#findComment-1885309 Share on other sites

zkreso
I don't work but it takes me at most 15 minutes to drive to my university. Since most my lectures start and end before "rush hour" there is very rarely any traffic, and even when there is, it dissipates quickly. I get to listen to a couple of tunes on the car stereo. It really gets me in a good mood before the lectures and I look forward to my commute every day. :) Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/75925-the-daily-commute/#findComment-1885319 Share on other sites
