The updated and new devices does seem nice. I'm also glad to see the new browser on the left. Seems more complete.

We'll see for further infos about this update.

Everyone talks about dual screen support... Honestly I don't care about this really... It would make people less pissed off if it happens. Oh wait ! The ableton community will continue to complain no matter what comes out of Live 9.

Proper PDC, way better CPU optimization and true MIDI Sync is all I ask. Oh and Bezier curves would be great. As I almost only use 3rd party plugins I don't really care about the new plugins, even if it'll be nice to have the Glue as a native effect.

How much is the upgrade price usually ? Didn't own Live before v8.

it's hard for me to say as my memory is crap for such things... but if we take a look at the current pricing

it's $149 USD to upgrade from 7 to 8 right now. dunno if they'll do some mega-introduction-price-whatever.

still way too expensive IMO.

Live is one of those things that I know is good, but I just never found a way to get it into my workflow with any productivity. Fun to play with, but ultimately I never end up using it to make tracks.

Yeah the only thing I use it for is playing around with VSTis with the arpeggiator and pitch&scale controls (I finally got a legit copy with my audio interface) as it's much easier to play with MIDI stuff than Buzz is. Aside from that I've never understood how you're meant to compose with it.

I haven't used Ableton in years, only scratched the surface tbh but I found it worked well for my needs at the time. I think I've left it too late to continue on the upgrade path - and I'm reluctant to buy it again really. Also, a friend is trying to coerce me into getting Reason for us to do collaborative work a lot faster - he's a demon with it, so it would be like having my own private tutor on hand.

huh. I never really thought about how much DAW and VST aesthetic taste varies...are there ones you like a lot?

I like Ableton but then again I dabbled in Garageband for fun years ago so just about anything remotely slick looks decent imo

I can see why it would be usefull from playing with it ages ago. But it's too pricey.

I think, using "Live" only makes sense, if you want a very easy way to play out "live". Actually this is exactly what I want. Though I'm a big Reason fan (and wizzard) I think I need to make the switch soon.

I wish Ableton would split the session mode off into a slim trim clean focused lightweight program with no distractions for pure straight forward wav file launching. Overall I think it makes a pretty miserable DAW but they got the clip launching right for the most part.

i have no idea how to use ableton LIVE. but i can use it as daw just fine. the problem is I experiment with pitch shifting and looping small sections so much that what i'm doing is always out of the bpm of the project. all of those ways it tries to think for you are not helpful to me.

I don't understand how some of you don't see it as a decent DAW. I've used it for just over a year as me main hub and to be honest it makes most DAW's I have worked with (Cubase, Renoise, Reason, FLstudio and a bit of Pro-Tools) seem overly complicated and clunky aside from Reason, which I found to be useful, but never really quite liked any of the patches I built in it.

The only a few bummers for me. One, is the fact that I have to record my loops into 'arrangement' mode, then build from them to a song by duplicating ect... If it was one screen ala what bitwig looks like, I'd have no problems. Two is that the audio buffering for recording live instruments is HORRENDOUS. I have corrected this error down to the closest I can with my current sound card so its not that bad, but I remember things being like a whole 1/8th note off when I first started with it from Cubase.

Its all what you make it, I guess. I'm pumped for this one, price isn't an issue as I split the license with my roommate.

Just based on this alone (https://forum.ableto...=47325&start=0) I could never take it all that seriously as a DAW. The arrangement mode just sort of looks and feels like a bare minimum effort.

ill still stand behind Live for now but you're right that is annoying

Quite good

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.
