The book was fantastic. Funniest book I've ever read, but it would need some seriously great performances to bring it to life properly.

Same director as the colossally shitty Bubba Ho Tep too, so my hopes are low. I need to buy the new book.

I saw the trailer first and got intrigued by the film, then found out about the book and decided to read it after a number of people on Reddit raved about how good a read it was. That reminded me never to turn to Reddit for reading recommendations.

There was definitely potential somewhere in the story, but the book played out like a 300-page long wet fart joke. The way in which it was written made me think the author is his own biggest fan—weak and dim-witted sarcastic humor, obnoxious anti-intellectualism worn as a badge of honor. It read like a shitty John Carpenter fan-fiction by a "I already know I'm funny" circlejerking blogger.

I started reading The Gone-Away World, which approaches a similarly apocalyptic set-up in an aire of dark humor, but by contrast, does so in an incredibly thoughtful and legitimately hilarious manner, without all the nerd-bro attempts at humor.

Obviously different strokes for different folks though.

Looks trashy & good. I loved Bubba Ho Tep & think that guy will be pretty perfect for this story.

Also, it was at Sundance, so of course it's good DUH

can't wait to see it. plus i have a hard on for Giamati

Shit book was reccomended to me by avid non-readers, I enjoyed it nonetheless but it was rubbish.

Expecting more of the same levels of rubbish. As an avid non-film guy I can expect to enjoy the fuck out of it.
