sweepstakes
First done-ish track in a very long time. I think I've commented on 10 ylc trax now. If not let me know how close I am to quota and I'll quickly rectify the situation. Guest yikes
drums are nice and loud i like it as it progresses and at the end it really gets better but it took to long to get better and more developed i would have enjoyed the chip 8 bit sounds coming in earlier and more funk/swing on the beat a bit repetitive on the bassline and overall lacking a hook or melody for my taste. needs more work but a good frame for robo minimal type stuff Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/76537-po/#findComment-1905799 Share on other sites
sweepstakes
Good points about the lack of hook and pacing. I tried a new process for this, jamming one track at a time for up to a half hour each, then paring it down. It was very slow but I got a lot more control that way. Probably should have started with stronger melodic content. I think I will use this process again but will spend more time sketching the initial ideas in the future. Thanks for listening :) Thanks Haha Confused Sad Facepalm Burger Farnsworth Big Brain Like × Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/76537-po/#findComment-1905809 Share on other sites

Guest isaki
that was absolutely wicked, loved the progression and use of piano--would be nice to hear more of that Quote Link to comment https://forum.watmm.com/topic/76537-po/#findComment-1906032 Share on other sites
sweepstakes
Thanks for the comments guys. I haven't put this much work into a track for a long time. Glad you enjoyed it :) I like the sustain portion of piano, but not so much the attack, so I cut that off and hid the start under the drum hit. I like that resonant, hammer action sort of effect of that gave me. I enjoy this one, it definitely sounds like you've put some time into it. Reminds me of one of the tracks from NIN's The Fragile for some reason - I forget which one.. Out of curiosity what gear did you use? sweepstakes
Octatrack for the main rhythm, which is playing Shruthi samples, and all sequencing. I used the arranger to jumble a 4/4 sequence. Shruthi for two layers of kick and the one note PWM bass. TX81Z for the melody. MPC for the glitchy drums, also mostly Shruthi and Nord samples, being sequenced by the OT arpeggiator. Quadraverb for the long reverb. My wife's piano, I think it's a Kawai. Reaper for recording, editing, mixing, and keeping the OT in sync with previously recorded tracks.
