awepittance
does that mean the new version can't access the old server? Havent tried soulseek in years, probably because i'm mostly mac now and nicotine always seemed to have like 1/10th the search results the windows soulseek would have. roasty
SoulseekQt for mac works pretty well, but the lists in the search/transfer panels are a bit fidgety.. BobDobalina
still using the "old" Slsk NS, haven't taken the plunge into Qt yet. Are any of the UI features worth it? The old one's kinda quirky but functional enough. I also had to config my wireless connection (static IP / port forwarding) with the old version - anyone know if Qt does this automagically for you? Disappearer
Always been a massive SLSK fan so that was a more than welcome overhaul. I've been using QT for some weeks now so let me try to shed some light on it. On 11/18/2012 at 4:35 AM, Awepittance said: does that mean the new version can't access the old server? Same server as the NS. On 11/18/2012 at 5:36 AM, DerWaschbar said: It never allows me to sort the results... frustrating. The latest update brings back the traditional "sort results" feature, many users wanted it back. Check out filters too though, it's a new alternative way of sorting out stuff and it can be handy too. The old one's kinda quirky but functional enough. I also had to config my wireless connection (static IP / port forwarding) with the old version - anyone know if Qt does this automagically for you? Automatic Port forwarding seems to work better here. Some of the new features I appreciated: *Filters. You type "flac" or "remix" or "live" and you can isolate or filter out stuff in real time (without searching again) in the results. *Get the client to notify you when a file or a folder or all files from a user get complete. You get a pop up in the tray and can even get a sound notification by selecting a WAV file to play. *Enable alerts when a certain user comes online. *The userlist gets its own tab (as pretty much everything else does) rather than being in the main window . You can add notes and stuff there and everything looks more tidy. You can also group users in um...well....groups too if you want. *Transfer Progress Bars (Chrono Trigger style). *The whole incomplete prefix for incomplete files thingy is gone, you are now forced in having a "downloading" and a "complete" subfolder inside the root folder you pick for saving your files. Once smth gets complete, it automatically gets transferred into the "complete" folder. I was a bit puzzled about it in the beginning but it's actually a much better system than before. Just remember to enable "Don't create subfolders for single downloads" because by default everything gets downloaded into its subfolder now, no matter if it's an album or a single track. Unless you prefer it that way of course. *Customizable colours for the entire GUI. *Unicode Support and some other choices for those who want to search stuff using characters different than the latin ones. *There's a diagnostics tab that apparently could be helpful to troubleshoot stuff. *The ability to automatically send a (custom if you want) message to anyone who tries to download something from you but doesn't seem to share anything themselves. There must be more (especially if you are into the chatting/rooms extravaganza) but those are the main ones I personally found more or less useful. In general I like the overhaul, I think it was needed after all those years. Sure, it's not ENTIRELY bug-free and I personally think some things need improvement (like having the ability to reorder the columns, user column is the first now btw) but Nir (the main - only? - Dev) is pretty helpful in the forum trying to sort em out. There's a feature request section too. I say give it a try!
