New (and free) Marathon videogame "Marathon:Phoenix"

First download this:

Then put the "Aleph One" application from the first download into the "Marathon Phoenix" folder.

Open the Aleph One application and enjoy.

This game was completed September 14th 2012 by RyokoTK. I think it takes place after the third Marathon game Marathon:Infinity.

Marathon is the second game by Bungie and is similar to Doom, only with much more plot development and interesting themes, and slightly more intricate graphics and gameplay. Very IDM themes in my opinion, about AI gaining self awareness and the cyclical nature of time. If you want to play the original Marathon games, you can download them (FOR FREE!) here. Great. I was asking for a new Marathon game the other day in the "Bungie - Destiny" thread... but... they changed the design of the aliens. Wtf?

This one isn't by Bungie, although I think that the aliens are basically the same except for the color.

My personal favorite is Tempus Irae, probably better than the actual Marathon games to be honest. There are a few more as well, and a whole bunch that are just level packs made for Marathon:Infinity (as opposed to those, which are called "Total Conversions").

Perhaps it's just me, but I thought Marathon 2 was bad and boring back in 1995. Duke 3D was just around the corner.

The original is better, as is Infinity. In my opinion. Durandal is boring, but the plot is kind of cool.

so was marathon 1 and 2 to mac users what doom 1 and 2 was to pc users? i never played any of the marathon games and never really got the hype. doom had the BFG9000 and cyberdemons and deathmatches, what was marathons thing?

Yeah, except Marathon has a plot and characters. It's kind of like reading a science fiction novel where you actually get to do the fight scenes. Marathon:Phoenix is less plot oriented however.

I was just thinking about DOOM last night, and how little of a story it had. Totally revolutionized first person shooters, but didn't really say much, ultimately.

I've always wanted to try Marathon, but was a little too cautious to get sucked into another long trilogy.
