It's too bad they didn't do more with the last part, that bit is really nice. The buildup to it is so stupid and the whole thing is mixed pretty poorly.

However, I hope they continue the trend of liquidy stereo fart basses onto the next album

Dude, for a guy who gets no enjoyment out of anything on Oversteps, you really enjoy posting about it.

The build up is quite good. Sounds like muck on a shit equipment, sounds great otherwise. The little resolving motif is wonderful. It's like Rale with a little extra Te. Track is QG.

I like most of the tracks. In fact (I've said this before) I would really like it if it wasn't from Autechre. I just don't think it's up to their standards. I know that my opinion is objectively wrong and I'm projecting my own baggage and expectations onto them and blah blah blah, but I feel this too strongly to be swayed by the mere mention of that. On the whole it's just not as good as any of their other albums, including Incunabula.

Eye think the difference with Oversteps is it didn't have the ''wow, I really can't get a grip on this long enough to 'get it''' that you get from certain passages of previous albums. You could tell there was other 'hidden' stuph sliding around in the mix but because it was so twinkly and melodic it was hard to feel that satisfying challenge that previous albums had brought to the table along with their cheese and crackers.....or whatever.

I'm not discrediting your opinions. I ain't even bovversteps. I am just observing that you might have posted about cliffs of doversteps more than anyone, not that there's anything wrong with that. :guitar solos out of thread:

No, I think you're right. Cos I still half-believe people saying, oh you just don't get it yet. And I really want to get it! But I'm either too stupid or it's just not there :(
