euphoria-inducing opiods via transcranial direct current stimulation

Recommended Posts

From the "yes, it's actually 2013" department...

tDCS is a new application of neuroscience that is frankly a little bit scary. Basically, by applying a very small current to your scalp (2 milliamps), you can alter the behavior of neurons in your brain... tDCS has already been used by DARPA to speed up the training of military snipers...

... The University of Michigian have found that tDCS, when the electrodes are placed above the motor cortex, releases endogenous μ-opioid...

...At this point, if youre a tech nerd, youre probably wondering if you could perform the same trick at home, and get high on your body's own opioids. In short, yes you could you could buy a tDCS kit, build it, strap in, and turn the voltage up to 11...

Well this will have the pharmaceutical industry shitting themselves, or they will just charge enough for these things to make up the difference.

There will be new love from the ashes of us.

By boosting the release of natural painkillers, less pharmaceutical opiates are required for managing pain, thus reducing the side effects and the risk of addiction.

Anyways, at least we now have some idea of why intergalactic space travelers keep crashing all over the place.

So is there supposed lower addiction risk/rate because the device isn't replacing the brains supply of opioids like a drug would, but instead is just releasing them and stimulating more to be made? I'm pretty dang intrigued by all the applications of these things, and there's DIY communities here and there too.

Well I imagine abuse would still lead to withdrawal type symptoms because your brain chemistry would have to normalize again, but yeah technically should relieve people of the side effects of putting powerful chemicals into your body that don't belong.

i saw a documentary before where they were getting a guy to recite the alphabet while passing neodymium magnets over his skull and you could see him kinda mini-stroking out in places. scary stuff.

Well, hasn't it been proven that shock therapy leads to brain damage? I don't know if there is considerable difference between 9 volts and however many volts they use during shock therapy but I would be wary.

I think the manufactured virus light receptor therapy would probably be safer for long term use. (maybe)

could be a good thing to use in rehabilitating drug addicts, maybe, instead of chemical drugs...

might make withdrawal a little less painfull.

bet they'll be in some trendy bars/clubs before the end of the year aswell.

I volunteered for one the first Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation research studies about 10 years ago where they used a big figure-8 shaped magnet to send shocks into the brain. This may have been a bit different as it was monitoring long-term benefits rather than immediate drug-like effects - still it was pretty freaky how a small click on the scalp can make your hands do involuntary movements.

I was on those studies also. I met my first and third wives there. Do you have a limp by any chance? If so you will be familiar with wheelbarrow Geoff?

Find a way to stimulate the 5-ht2a receptor and you'll have me intrigued.

FWIW, getting self-doped is not the only thing these devices are good for...

I hate adderall and all these so-called brain boosting meds and tech. Fascinating reading from a research point of view, but I find it very depressing to think that we may be forcing kids to use this sort of stuff to compete with each other in the future. I'm quite the luddite when it comes to attempts to improve the human animal.

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

I was in US tjis summer, and eat in KFC. FUCK That's the worst thing i've ever eaten. The flesh simply doesn't cleave to the bones. Battery ferming. And then, foie gras is banned from NY state, because it's considered as ill-treat. IT'S NOT. KFC is tourist ill-treat. YOU POISONERS! Two hours after being to KFC, i stopped in a amsih little town barf all that KFC shit out. Nice work!

So i hope this woman is not like kfc chicken, otherwise she'll be pulled to pieces.

This is evolution man.

There will be new love from the ashes of us.

no it's not. What's "evolution" about it?

Evolution would be more like eugenics or genetic modification, things I (and many people) also have strong reservations about.

You're right of course, biologically speaking. But in some philosophical (and very practical) way, we evolve with our tools too. I would call cell phones & the internet the largest evolutions in our lifetime. They have completely rewired our integration with each other.

This may be the end of humanity. Or a really cost-effective way to run a mental hospital. Please can we get mental hospitals again, America? The disturbed deserve opioid therapy.

Agreed, they have completely changed our modes of communication, but not the monkeys within us. Thus, the kid who plays WoW all day and wanks to internet porn still gets clinically depressed. How is this possible? Well, um...because a healthy human mind still requires getting off your fat arse and real human sexual contact once in a while, durrr...

I know some people who just want to unlock all the doors, and have our physical bodies and minds be completely malleable as determined by us. That would be complete freedom, wouldn't it? So it's kind of reactionary for me not to head in that direction. But I still like the idea that limitations create diversity, and "character" (within reason of course, I'm not against cleft palate surgery or things of that nature).
