What is the deal with minecraft?

I can get the ipad app for $6, is it worth it? I hear so much talk about it but just from looking at the screenshots it looks kinds dumb?

I'm not quite sure how it would work on an iPad, tapping the screen 20 times to cut down a tree or 100000 times to mine a bit would probably get a little annoying. My initial thought it that it won't be that great and, as Squee suggested, you should just stick to the PC version (if you haven't played it already there is a free single player version to see if you like what the game is about)

Well, the xbox version isn't even the full PC version so I imagine the ipad version is pretty crappy. Although, you won't even realize it for a while until you understand the game and actually are annoyed that you can't make a nuclear reactor. If you want to just dig up some stuff and build some things then by all means. If you want to make a machine that mines minerals for you then get a PC.
