I love the early stuff Downie did with Handley and Turner, Bytes and Spanners are classic albums, but this does sound pretty uninspiring. Personally I think it's time for Ken Downie to visit the vets and put the dog down with a lethal injection.

Right so, if we're finished pointing out that old Black Dog isn't the same band as the new Black Dog.

I like the sound of this, in bleep 4 particular. Whats the story with bleep 3? Theres no sample.

Fair enough, Id probably be fairly pissed of if I released music and people kept referencing a band I was never in (Im assuming that one of the dust bros runs that twitter).

not really sure which 1 of them tweets, thought it was quite amusing though!

for the record i quite like this and like "new" black dog, is high quality techno business, though can see why fans of the earlier stuff wouldnt necessarily like the new stuff and would have thought they would have had thicker skins and not got upset by shit written on here.

think they have been reading this!!

ahah reminds me of clark being unhappy with a lot of facebook comments when iradelphic came out.

dudes, you are big musicians, you should give a f*ck about watmm and co

Check my dusty tunes and mixes over here: https://soundcloud.com/2kn

I've actually preferred this era of Black Dog (Music For Real Airports onwards) and the sound isn't really too much of a surprise if you've checked out the many mixsets that have been released over the last couple of years.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

The idea that this music (at least from the samples) is stylistically new, novel, unusual and a contrast to the "same old over and over and again and again" that WATMM allegedly prefers is :cerious:

so you make standard electro/techno fare that has sounded like this for what 15+ years and accuse people who don't like it of not opening up to new music? give me a break

i think he's bemoaning the moaning, the criticism he reads here is repetitive, that the dog were better in the old days... not the musical preference of watmm in general. i don't see any shred of pretence from them that their music is "stylistically new, novel, unusual and a contrast to the same old"... my impression is that they just make the music they want to make.

I specifically recall a few years ago JR enabled a temporary user account here for Ken just so he could tell some watmmer to piss off for stating this very opinion

Idk, part of me says he/they bring it upon themselves for continuing to trade under the Black Dog name instead of just calling the project something else. At the same time the current lineup makes it abundantly clear that their m.o. is pure, dark techno, so if that ain't someone's bag then he/she should just move on.

We literally have to go through this every thread.

I like the music.

Why are you here then? You know what the music is like now, why are you here?

I can appreciate both era's. But Im pretty sure most people know what tBD are up to these days.

It does seem kind of like having a bitch-fit @ WATMM just because some of us may have voiced discontent. I agree as big as tBD is, they really shouldn't give a fuck about what this community thinks. WATMM's opinion isn't that influential is it?

I personally like the new-era stuff, I know they used to be a lot more IDM back in the day, but honestly I haven't heard a lot of the older stuff (I've been meaning to hear Bytes and Spanners). For what it is, the new stuff is pretty good. Music For Real Airports is an interesting album and the Liber/Dogma era stuff is pretty solid techno. I'll probably check this out eventually.

Personally, I appreciate that they give a shit about what is said here.

I must admit that I do, too, although I'm not sure that I should. I just can't help but appreciate hearing some feedback about what is being said here from an artist or collective that I like.

[Dawning realization...] I guess I now I understand those "Wooooo!" people when the person on the stage says the name of their hometown. "He said Springfield! That's where I'm from!"

I'm totally understanding of the fact that a group like Black Dog has feelings, but if i was them i would have retweeted the lethal injection comment instead, because whether you like the music or not it was a good/funny comment.
