Seriously. I really don't think I understand this. I mean, it sure is loud as you say, but it seems to distort like crazy. Also, I'm kinda scared that if I turn it up very loud, I might lose my hearing. So uhm... I don't know what to say. Except for what I just said.

Here's some help, yo:

1) use compression on individual tracks to trim peaks (e.g. 2-3db GR)

2) again, use compression on mix-bus to trim peaks (again, 2-3db GR)

*YOU WANT TO DOLE OUT THE HEAVY-LIFTING AND NOT DEPEND ON ONE PIECE OF GEAR TO GET LOUDNESS

3) EQ EQ EQ EQ EQ! Different frequencies have different perceived loudness...Great way to earn some phantom headroom, yo.

4) Now that our track has been smoothly compressed (and not demolished with one compressor), it's time for the limiter: Gently squeeze.

5) Go back and look for ways to earn headroom (e.g. HPF your track at 30hz).

I finally found a compressor I don't hate and think it's a little softer but I think the dynamics are a lot better

sounds like you didn't listen to anything i said

he means compressing yet again on the master after compressing each individual track

oh ok, thanks!

Yeah, trimming peaks will literally earn you like 3db of headroom. You totally need to use a compressor before your limiter, and spread out the heavy-lifting or else your mix will sound...like it sounds right now. Blasted.
