Anyone here been lately? I'm heading back up there next week for Sónar Reykjavík, among other things... but it's been a few years since I last visited. Just after some good spots for food and drinking around Reykjavík, or even just some recommended places to visit outside the city (we're driving too) - any tips welcome. Cheers!

Was there summer 2011 - only thing i'd recommend really is to take the car you've rented and just drive around the place - maybe have one of the golden circle/waterfalls/geiser as a rough destination, but just get lost in the countryside - never been in an environment which so dramatically changes every 5minutes and takes your breath away

I went last October (early in the month) absolutely loved it we went on loads of different day trips etc

These guys are pretty good: http://www.grayline.is/tour/day_tours/AH12_the_golden_circle_classic/Iceland.is

I think you get a bit of a discount if you book online- worth seeing the 'golden circle tour' as you are driving you could look up where they go and just do it yourself.

I'm gutted we didnt get to go to Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon looks so fucking beautiful, I'd say that would be awesome.

We stayed at centerhotel Thingholt and it was really nice loads of nice cafes etc nearby.

On the harbour theres a really good fish and chip place: http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g189970-d775121-r82649406-Icelandic_Fish_Chips-Reykjavik_Capital_Region.html

Maybe we were really lucky in Iceland but overall the food was really great everywhere...

there's some nice bars/cafe things on Lagavegur street, there's this place: https://www.facebook.com/people/Kofi-Tómasar-Frænda/1357656794 that does good food and then later on becomes a nice bar with good music, just down from there this place: http://www.laekjarbrekka.is/forsida did 'hearty icelandic food'

Great stuff, thanks!

We're doing this tour as well as the blue lagoon spa - which I've been to before - but I enjoyed it enough to go again :) Last time I visited was quite a few years ago, so I imagine a lot of bars/restaurants have changed/disappeared. Heck, one of Björk's favourite hangouts Sirkus was still around when I was there - pulled out one of my old shots below (hah, never even spotted til now that CCP who make EVE Online had their original office next door!)

We're staying about a mile away from the Harpa concert venue, just to make it easier to stumble back from Sonar in the middle of the night :)

Oh I loved going in that concert hall, we didn't get to eat there because we went on a saturday and it was fully booked but just walking in there and having a drink at the bar was really nice. Amazing architecture and at night it lights up to look like the northern lights,
