Audio to MIDI data conversion?

Recommended Posts

Hey yo, so just wondering if anyone is aware of a program or software than can interpret simple audio (lets says a sequence of tones/notes) and convert it into MIDI data?

was messing with my monotribe (had the session recording) and would like to re-create a sequence - bought a MIDI unit for the tribe, so if I could hopefully interpret the audio I could re-make her via the midi connection to the tribe

suggestions?

Yeah my first thought was Melodyne too. Tomorrow's release of Ableton 9 also seems to have that feature.

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

chairs lads, will check out Melodyne

yea, just saw someone doing a beta demo of that audio to MIDI thing with ableton, how future.

Melodyne is pretty good for this but youll still get a lot of garbage notes unless you clean it up pre midi-export.

It's helped me get note data to 'cover' songs who's melodies are very hard to determine.

This gives me an idea. What if one were to convert say, a synth lead to MIDI data, then play those notes through the same synth, feeding that into the audio to MIDI converter again, and repeating the process each bar, so the note data gradually decays? Would be interesting for something rather elaborate, imo. I think I might try this with my guitar to MIDI interface (as well as the hex pickup input it has a mic/line input).

In max/msp 5 or 6, I think you could use the "ftom~" (frequency to MIDI at signal rate) object combined with an object that can translate a signal into frequency data. Someone let me know if I'm wrong cause I'm just a nooby. =)

* You may be able to use the info~ object to collect midi pitch data from the file if you upload your recorded wavefile into a sfplay~ object or a buffer~.

in reaktor there is an interesting one which can be quite normal or experimental http://co.native-instruments.com/index.php?id=userlibrary&type=0&ulbr=1&plview=detail&patchid=10629 only works on monophonic input

the question is how to do the opposite - converting a audio file to .midi notes/output data

doesn't the new ableton live 9 have some magic woodo built in to do this? I think I saw it doing it rather impressively in a demo video.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Yeah. I was surprised no one said it sooner. Ableton 9 can do it natively now, and it's supposed to work pretty darn well.
