This is really cool and a huge step in an excellent direction. Amazing.

We need a pirate party to get SABAM, Auvibel, Buma/Stemra, GEMA etc. back in line. The amount of poisonous legislation they have realised is mind boggling and has to reverted asap. We have to pay money to our Belgian copyright trolls when:

- playing the radio at work or even when an employee is using an MP3 player at work to listen to his own music

- buying any blank media (edit: apparently this "private copying levy" is pretty common in other countries as well, wtf)

- using a small fragment of music in a quiz

- playing music at a public event where the artists played are not registered at SABAM or don't even exist

There is no way they'll be able to enforce this in any effective way.

I just went from LUX mobile broadband to German satellite dsl, fucking half of youtube is blocked, alright.

Well, this just means more illegal downloads from my part.

Fuck GEMA. They didn't get their ridiculous as fuck regulations for clubs (which would have made the fees clubs had to pay rise by up to 1000%, and sometimes more) and now they're trying this bullshit?

Yeah real great job m8s. Just when Germany managed to establish one of the best electronic music scenes in the world you decide to try and fuck it up again.

This is very silly. I've noticed American media companies seem to be blocking more and more Youtube content too (at least for the UK anyway). Really, limiting their audience is the most retarded thing they could possibly be doing at this point

Are GEMA blocking German content or also international content? If they are blocking international content, what is the reasoning for that? They're not the not the rights holders are they? Is it just bullying people away from the internet to traditional media?

International as well. To my knowledge, SONY, UMG, BMG are all blocked, which is already a lot considering their size. There are more though.

PS.: To anyone suffering from this problem: search for the addon "proxtube" which circumvents blocked videos. AFAIK available for both firefox and chrome.
