I think you need to beef up the low end in general, not just the kick as stated above. The mix sounds pretty thin (I'm listening on Tannoy Reveals BTW)

I also would have enjoyed more of a baseline hook here and there to add some identity to the track. Just 8 bars of repartition here and there can do wonders to a track even if it is break/glitch core or whatever?

I liked some of the percussive edits in this though, nice and tight production!!

thanks for the input and you time spent listening guys.

funny that everyone is saying more bass since my speakers are jumping and bouncing in the sockets -i'm using self powered KRK v6's and the bass sounds too loud.

hmmmmm…..?

also when i "mastered" this tune i had to lower the track a lot since it was brick walled at export.

i'm gonna play it in my pals jeep which has a sick kicker system to check the bass.

mix is fucked mate, i think your problem is everything is too loud - it's all clamouring for space and you're getting unintentional sidechaining and yes, the bass is lost to a large degree. i'd totally do the mix over - turn EVERYTHING down to silence, then sowly bring up each individual part to about half-volume, tweak each part's volume slightly (whilst still keeping the volume roughly at about half) until you get a nice mix, where all frequencies have a bit of space and you can hear everything in the track (ie no, or at least very little "muddiness"). once you're happy with your mix at half volume, bounce it all down (purposely much too quiet), then import the bounced wav. into your DAW, normalise and perhaps stick the whole thing through some kind of mastering suite (i like T-Racks).

1) Yeah there's not enough 'thump' to the track. It's missing some 60-100hz (which is generally where you find the fundamental of a kick drum). HPF your track at 30-40hz and bump the 60-100hz area and that's a start.

2) When you "master" a track you should be aiming for just shy of 0dbfs (the reason you don't shoot for 0dbfs itself is to avoid instersample peaks). Alot of limiters (which should always be last in you mastering chain) have dithering and level options. Or you can simply mixdown intentionally quiet and then bring the level up afterwards in like a Wavelab-type program.

3) You monitors aren't being honest with you. Either they have an inaccurate frequency response, or your room is boomy, or some other factor (maybe you're monitoring too loud?).

Anyway, nice tune.

PS. 4) you should HPF all your non-bass instruments at 100-200hz. That will tighten things up considerably.

ok

thanks guys

i am gonna try all the things mentioned in this thread

I hate mixing and it shows.

all of my music is made in a bubble and i have no one to play it for ever so your input is really appreciated.

my monitoring situation is awful

the room is boomy,my speakers are old and not flat and i am missing a lot of my hearing.

put up sheets on your walls

that will make a HUGE difference

the biggest problem (IMO) is flat hard surfaces (i.e. walls)

if you can make sure there aren't long stretches of wall exposed

and also make sure to break up the symmetry of your room

(image the sound waves bouncing around until they hit your ears)

[err sorry for the weird grammar but I'm in a hurry]
