I've been clearing out some old stuff from the loft and garage and gear still at my parents from when I was a kid and came across my old consoles and computers.

Feeling nostalgic, I managed to find all the leads, controllers and power supplies and hooked them up one by one to see if they still worked.

At this point I had decided I was gonna sell them to clear space and raise some cash. When I started playing however, all notions of selling were gone.

These games from yesteryear are awesome. Some of them might look dated but these are truly addictive.

I found :

2 Spectrums with about 400 games. I haven't tried all of them out but the ones I do still work ! Must be 20+ years since these were played with. Been playing Manic Miner and Monty Mole for days now.

Original modded Playstation with 60 games. Brilliant ! Mortal Kombat 3. Doom and Tempest have been getting played regularly.

Dreamcast with 15 games. What an underrated machine. I might have to get me some more games for this but have been hooked on Sonic Adventure 2.

2 Atari St's in original boxes and packaging with about 40 games. R Type is awesome !

A friend gave me a PS2. Got no games but the back catalogue is enormous for this. Any recommendations ?

Anyway, I feel that apart from the anorak collection value of these systems and games, the gameplay and addictive nature is something that's not seen in today's gaming.

Looks like I'm hooked.

You might consider selling those Atari STs - a lot of musicians still use them these days!

That's quite a haul. I wouldn't dream of selling it. I'm a bit sentimental about that kind of stuff, though.

My dad just shipped me some stuff that I left at his place, and included my Sega 32X. Anyone play this thing? I only had one game [that I've since lost], and am not sure what's good for it.

The 32X was a failure - and there were no notable games made for it. It was Sega's lame attempt to extend the life of the Genesis/Mega Drive far beyond what it was capable of hardware-wise.

But seriously, 32x for me arrived at a time where PC games where so much better and of million of more and better possibilities. Those Genesis games looked like shit after that, and those 32x versions didn't have that much more in terms of content. I think NBA Jam looked closer to the Arcade Game.

there were some interesting overlooked games for the 32x, Kolibri for one. IT was sort of the bird version of ecco the dolphin.
Knuckles Chaotix was also pretty good, it was basically a sonic sequel with several different playable characters that had totally different gameplay from one another, one of them was a bee who could fly anywhere.

It's like saying they're aren't any good games for Sega CD, which would be incorrect also. Every 'doomed' system maybe besides Atari Jaguar has a handful of truly good and interesting games

and yeah all the 3d shit for 32x was bad, beides maybe Doom which was probably the closest console version to the PC game. Some of the 2d stuff that had better graphics than genesis was not bad at all, but you rarely hear about those games

this game still looks pretty beautiful

Some of my favorite antiquated but lesser-known PC games include Raptor: Call of the Shadows, Star Wars: Dark Forces (I still have the original CD-ROM), and System Shock (the spiritual granddad of the Bioshock series)

Raptor was an interesting, it was one of the first action games that i played that only took the ranking up aspect of RPGs and nothing else. Dark Forces pt 1 was also mind blowing at the time. So many FPS innovations that are rarely mentioned that game pioneered. I think it was probably the most advanced ray traced game besides maybe Descent I ever played (before actual 3d came into popularity)

That's pretty much my overall sentiment of both games. Raptor I've played as recently as two years ago on a DOS emulator. I'm not aware of any other 1941-style airborne shooters that had an economy system where you can buy weapons and gear between missions like Raptor did.

I have noticed that there are more indie games cropping up that aim to capture the nostalgia of retro games. Primordia from last December is a good example in relation to early '90s Lucas Arts adventure games.

Guest glasse

I recently got mine and my brother's combined collections from our mom's basement and set them up, including a NES and SNES, 64, PS2 and an Atari 2600. There was a bunch of Coleco games in there too but no sight of the adapter to play them on the 2600. There was 2 NES advantages (8bit TMNT arcade with this was pretty epic) and a SNES fighter stick (Street Fighter II). I can play all of those games on my mac but it is nice to play the carts on the original consoles.

knuckles chaotix in case anyone cares, lol

the 2d platformer games are notable for 32x because they were able to do more than 256 colors unlike the regular genesis. So a lot of these games tended to have extremely bright and overly colorful color palettes to show off the new technology

this is also another good looking game for 32x but i didn't particularly like it

Those Coleco carts need a Colecovision to play them... there was no 2600 adapter for them.
