Studio Desk / Workstation recommendations

that's low for any type of "real" desk, however with a bit of ingenuity you can get a lot of milage out of cheap Ikea stuff.

Like this: http://www.ikeahackers.net/2010/12/cheapest-home-studio-desk-ever.html

I have built a multi-KB rack thing our of the Broder set of parts too. NOt really a desk, but it has several tiers of surface and it's great for having access to lots of stuff in a smaller space.

Google DIY studio desk ! Studio furnitures are quite expensive, most of the time way out of your budget.

Anyway, that's what I'm planning to do.

I think that was made from a shelf + short legs which are meant to go under kitchen cabinets. Grab an ikea catalog and start parts hunting. :)

Found them on Amazon .... they're called Monitor risers. http://www.amazon.co.uk/monitor-risers/s?ie=UTF8&keywords=monitor%20risers&page=1&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Amonitor%20risers

ah ok. However keep in mind those things on amazon are ugly and plasitcy. The link I posted is all ikea parts, repurposed from original intent. :) And stoopid cheap. For 18 punds you can likely build the entire desk from Ikea parts.

If you're handy, build your own. That is how most commercial/"professional" studios go about it, anyway. I just took a trip to my local hardware store and bought some MDF and 2x4's after drafting up a design I was happy with that could accommodate all of my gear. Not to mention that if you're a gearhead, you should probably build something with plans of expansion, as nothing is sadder than when synths have to sit on the ground/in a closet/whatever and get forgotten about and go unused.

I'd really like a desk with motorized legs so that I can stand up when playing, and sit down when editing. Those kinds of desks run 1-2K though... So... No.

Kinda like Cyrus Rex's giant custom modular case? When I say case, it is actually more like a wall, that has motorized legs to move it up and down. Its a eurorack system that has something like a total of 2940hp, it is massive.

ah, but does it blend?

Sadly I'm not really a handyman so wouldn't know how to build my own. :(

If you refuse to build your own you will never be capable.

There will be new love from the ashes of us.

It will be remarkably easier than you think. Studio furniture it so over priced because noobs assume that there is something magical about it, not realizing it's just a damned desk.

^^ This. Just sand and spray paint whatever you make and it will look pretty damn good (so long as it is structurally sound, which is pretty easy to accomplish with 2x4s, plywood or MDF, and a handfull of nails or screws).
