simple question about peace

how to achieve it?

let's define peace as a lack of war here...

is it possible to forgive terrorists if they prove that they won't commit any more terrorism?

and if they refuse to stop, what do you do? die? kill? go to prison? put others in prison?

is it possible to make peace with your opponent by talking?

what if he's religious? what if his strict adherence to his religion is non-negotiable? then is there any leeway for negotiation? does that mean that peace would have to be forced on people?

what beliefs do the opponents share with each other? is there a common ground they opponents can stand on? are the ambitions of one side too great?

what if your opponent's disgusting plan falls by his own mistakes? should you forgive him and help him to survive in the world?

even if your opponent refuses to accept it, would a chivalric code be useful in resolving conflicts?

if millions of your people have just been murdered, tortured, maimed, or imprisoned, is it possible to forgive the people who did it, and let bygones be bygones?

your opponent is deluded, so how do you show him the truth and change him into being a good friend? what if he refuses to drop his unrealistic ambition no matter what?

To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean.

Imagine worldwide peace...

... no

People get jealous, people get greedy, they desire and lust. They want more. They want something that belongs to someone else.

You cannot alter human nature, and therefore a unified peace is something that unfortunately will remain a pipedream.

IMO.

Anyway... im getting married next weekend so screw war!

it's just not the way we're biologically programmed - we didn't charismatically convince the neanderthals we were superior to them, we simply bashed their heads in

we use aggression to prove ourself more worthy, unless we can alter our dna's true peace will never be achieved. we're not intelligent enough to ignore our basic instincts.

It is not mankind in general that wants war, but just a handful in positions of great power.

it's almost funny how some serious conflicts in the world are largely caused by poor communication. embedded presumptions that go ignored, generalizations that gloss over reality, differing definitions that go unclarified, these kinds of things seem to be commonly found at the center of serious political disputes. so yeah, talking, if done correctly, could go a long way.

Why do you assume this is some sort of "biological programming" rather than a response to social/environmental conditions?

I read recently that it could well have been to do with the fact of the smarter group. I think it said something like we had smaller eyes and a lesser vision which required less brainpower and used that to our advantage. There were a few other reasons like that too. I'll try and find the articles again, quite interesting.
