Probably the main melody of this track:

http://pselodux.bandcamp.com/track/super-penguivman

I originally wrote it in Animal Crossing, in the town song editor. It was an exercise in trying to manipulate the C major scale in the editor into a D minor scale.

I think it's one of my most catchy melodies. It's certainly one that people who come to my gigs remember!

Also the synth sound is fucking wicked and I've used it in a lot of tracks since then. I call it 'caramel' because it sounds like it was poured into the song.

yeah that's the catchiest melody of yours I've heard. Is it just coincidental that Squarepusher's stuff after you released this sounds remarkably similar? Truthfully none of the tracks on Ufabulum sound this good to me melodically speaking.

made in 2009, just a simple sinewave melody, but I think it probably has the prettiest melody of all my tracks.

I think I have prettier stuff with tuned percussion melodies but people don't generally count that sort of thing.

I always liked that one, mostly because it was a complete coincidence. Mostly just fake bell sounds and a fake organ. Wish I'd made it a few minutes longer.

Lovely tracks guys!

that's a killer track, modey

Aw thanks! Re: the Squarepusher comparison, I don't really hear it tbh, besides the pace and maybe a couple of synth sounds. I do think Squarepusher is one of the strongest, melodically, out of the featured artists though. It's pretty obvious that he's an actual trained musician. Where I just fluke it, haha!

But thanks for the massive compliment. I have learned to take more risks melodically over the last few years. Too bad my music is getting a little too proggy for most people, for example:

(I'm especially proud of the chord progressions in this one, particularly in the breakdown from 3:00 or so)

I still think the best melody you ever did in the whole history of the planet was this one: http://pselodux.bandcamp.com/track/emergence-iii

It's one of the few melodies from the YLC forum I've never actually forgotten. It's very nice.

(Not trying to turn this into a pat-each-other-on-the-back-kinda thing. just sayin'. Kinda relevant I guess.)

I thought this was about single-track instrumental, one-off melody compositions. But here goes. Either standalone compositions or something I always liked but never got the guts to put music around...

https://soundcloud.com/derelic7/polysixoldmelody

this is one of those harmonies that i got into music to make, expecting to make it into a track someday

https://soundcloud.com/derelic7/absynthpad

this is just really comfy and aphexy

https://soundcloud.com/derelic7/padmelody1

originally intended as a dark interlude but it never fit on any album, there's a certain accent in the melody that stuck on me

https://soundcloud.com/derelic7/comp2

this is kind of dark, almost in a medieval sense to me, but i like the really massive messy sound from just one synth, with some added 8bit stuff

https://soundcloud.com/derelic7/piano-comp

a piano composition that I thought had some good tension and mystery going on, like it would fit into a film like The Game

for good measure, here are some old tracks with my most favourite melodies

https://soundcloud.com/derelic7/00-derelic7-dust-spotted

very dreamy and nostalgic, I love it

this is kinda jazzy and aphexy (later on), I played it to a seasoned jazz musician once and he said he "liked it even though it was crap"

this one actually got some airplay in the states, on an independent radio station in LA

Haha, if you're talking about the melody at the start that gets repeated later on in the dnb part, well, I didn't actually write that, but my old bandmate did! He wrote it as a standalone melody (as it sounds in the dnb section, but slower, also i chopped it up a little bit) and couldn't do anything with it so I wrote a track around it. I also cut it up further for this track, which might end up getting released on a Pselodux 'Versions' album:

thx !

Old track, it's very simple and the track goes on for too long, but it's still my favourite homespun thing.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

The first and last track on my next EP for Future City Records are two of my favorite melodies I've ever composed. First track is in D Major with a pretty simple melody, some occasional octave jumping, but it's mostly fairly lyrical. Same with the last track except the last one is in C# Major & F# Major.

I almost always compose in D Major, because I'm a classically trained violinist and my favorite concertos to play (Brahms, Beethoven, Tchaikosky) are all in D Major. I've been exploring other keys lately, though.

I'll post the tracks ITT when the EP comes out next month. Don't want 2 spoil da surprise.

this is also one of my favorite melodies .Composed this one back in 2011. It's also in D Major.

this is from my collab pop-metal-electry thing I posted about in the other thread. The chorus part in the piano is probably my favorite melody. Warning, the vocals are bound to be a bit polarizing. (but the verses aren't recorded yet so it's mostly instrumental)

This isn't my best melody nor is it my favorite, but it's special to me because it was a total one off and I think it's in the most generic mode ever, C major. For some reason it really resonates with me even though it's technically very simple. Composed entirely on a Yamaha vl1 with abelton as a looper effect

wow, this is amazing! I really need to get into physical modeling synthesis; I never knew it could sound so realistic! It actually sounds like you're playing a bassoon or oboe or something.

I like this! It's got a bit of a NIN vibe. A bit more loose, but that's not a bad thing, really. I quite like the vocals!

Here we go.. I really think this is my best one. Start at 2.45 if you don't like the drums in the beginning...

I like it so much because it is one which actually has some progression. Most of the time I am to lazy to do such things. I obviously tried to mimic an organ with that tune. BTW it is 12 years old now...those good old wild days.

Nice thread, keep the gems coming!

Probably this from back in 2001 - Made it in about 10 minutes (actually by mistake, I mis-entered a couple of the chords when moving from keyboard to the tracker). Really really stupidly simple but it's still probably the most melodically sound thing I've ever made :

http://www.ilovecubus.co.uk/mp3/pathogenesis/cd2/05%20my%20final%20wish.mp3

I haven't eaten a Wagon Wheel since 07/11/07... ilovecubus.co.uk - 25ml of mp3 taken twice daily.

https://soundcloud.com/project-paradox/giza-visions

i made this song using sylenth1 and microtonic, i made all the sounds myself, even the drums which is a big deal for me. The first 2 minutes is dark and pulsing and then around 2:20 the melody comes in that lifts the mood of the song. To me this melody kind of represented "figuring things out" in a sense. Like being frustrated with things and then realizing for yourself what needs to change and working hard to take care of it.

@3:03 - not much to say, messing around with a new synth demo can't remember what was it called... you can ear the same melody repeating all over the song with different patches.
