Do you guys also get aroused by sound?

i found out what ASMR was about 6 months ago on Reddit it's not to be mistaken with Frisson ( which is the chills you get like when you hear the audience sing along to a band's lyrics.

it's that tingly feeling you get when you get a haircut, or stimulated attention or watching bob ross or for me, MR Rogers. we become intrigued. it starts with the chills on the top of your scalp

if you guys wanna post some videos that give you asmr, that would be rad

I think it is kind weird that they are creating this whole culture around ASMR. Like the fact that someone identifies as an ASMR artist creeps me out a bit.

Yeah I get that a lot. But to me it's different than say, listening to that video and getting aroused or whatever.

I think the 'hairs standing up on the back of my neck' thing is more connected towards the emotional power of the song I'm listening to. And how I feel like I'm being smashed in the face with a ton of emotions and feelings/memories that get triggered by the sounds I'm hearing.

This though, it's weird...

I get the chills relatively often. Both from music and other sounds, like when someone's vacuum cleaning or taking a shower.

"ASMR" sounds retarded but I get that too. It's like getting the chills inside your skull, but seems less specific to sound than the 'regular' chills for me.

please don't put arousal in the same place as ASMR...

I'm actually surpsied it took so long for a post about ASMR to come up on here.

For anyone new to it, it's a very relaxing tingly physical sensation that people get throughout their body due to various "triggers".

These triggers vary from person to person, such as:

-people talking softly or whipsering

-watching/hearing people do various slow, graceful things

-soft sounds in general, for example the sounds of brushes or people tapping softly on objects

-people instructing them to do things like follow something onscreen with their eyes or following a set of tasks

-following a light with their eyes

-general relaxing things I guess

This has also lead a lot of people to do roleplay videos of stuff like doctor's exams, haircut videos or store clerk videos.

It's confused a lot with "frisson" as Snafu said, but frisson is different. That's about getting chills from an amazing song or a particularly moving part of a film, etc.

Brushing ASMR, for example. Bob Ross is a huge gateway for a lot of people to ASMR.

Haha, yeah there are definitely a lot of cute girls making videos all the time. The thing about that is that it's usually people's first look into ASMR and then they start to think it's some sexual thing about obsessing over these girls. I don't doubt that a lot of people do it solely for that reason of course, but yeah it gives a strange first impression.

Googled a bit now and I'm seeing lots of mentions of vacuum cleaner sounds as causing ASMR, that feels just like getting the chills to me though, goosebumps and all. It does last longer and you get waves of shivers one after another, but I'm confused, maybe they are more or less the same thing after all.

Outstanding example where the vacuum cleaner triggers it and the fuzz in the track manages to keep it going:

It drives me mad, those videos of people whispering or talking like the girl on OPs post. The sound of the saliva and the subtle *shrck pwsh* really gets on my nerves

I get it ever once in a while, i kinda have to be in a certain mood. Anyway, this is the first song that gave me those chills, I heard it when i was around 13

I totally have that ASMR-thing going on with the sounds of water, like the shower running and similar noises. I could listen to it for hours.

I got a lot of negative goosebump-sounds though... like that scraping/squeaking noise that happens when pushing the straw through the plastic lid of a soft drink cup ... or the little noise you only really hear in your head whilst scraping the final bits of chocolate off the wooden stick of a Magnum ice cream with your front teeth ...

The intensity of the ASMR I experience while listening to a song is basically how I determine whether I like it, and how I rank songs against each other

Songs like Vordhosbn give me extremely intense ASMR, which is the reason why it's one of my favorites. Turquoise Hexagon Sun also does. Gantz Graf as well

Sometimes it gives me less ASMR after I've listened to a song a lot, so I take a break.

With some songs that as especially good, I can give myself ASMR by imagining them playing in my brain. That's always fun
