AKG 701 vs Sennheiser 650

I don't think any local shops around me carry the AKG 701's and i've had a crush on thier specs since released.

Anyone had a chance to hear them?

.. and any opinions on them vs the Sennheiser 650s?

this is just a general statement...every pair of akg headphones ive used have sounded funky...either muffled highs or not much mids....they never have seemed to represent the spectrum very well....on the other hand sennheisers have sounded excellent (i even own hd280pros) the only thing is mine or closed and the 650s are open...so i cant really say much on that....however i got some grados as well, so i bet the 650s are a mix between those and the 280s....so i'd guess really clear sound overall...also i hear they are one of the most comfortable headphones...i was in a critical listening class last semester, and those are what my teacher used...he also has grado rs1, but says they arent as comfortable...

have you read about the 701's at all? they are quite different and have some pretty brand spanking new technology in it. This is why i'm not generalizing it with the rest of the AKG products. Also the HD 650/600's have been the industry standard for the past 5 years maybe.

On a sidenote, I personally preferred the AKG k271's to the Sennheiser 280 pros.

werd (i really hate the 271s)...have u looked into grados....they sound the shit....what do you need these cans for....just general monitoring....or critical shit like mastering?

are you joking? they are pretty friggen flat for headphones, one of the flatest responses i've seen in a non "in ear" type configuration:

orubasarot stop bashing the 280pros they're good cans for monitoring. and really comfortable.

i guess you got a fat head cuz my 280s are comfy and that headband its workin fine...i think theyre awesome for live cans cuz they cut out a lot of external noise and are nice n present in critical frequency ranges (kicks, snares, hats...)
