Crunchy, distorted IDM/techno/acid

I've been doing some crunchy IDMs with acid/techno influences and loads of distortion. I'll be posting them into this thread.

For the hell of it let's start with the most fucked up one. A couple of time signature changes and variable BPMs in this one..

Yeah I'm digging this. There's plenty of awesome sounds jumping around, and has just the right amount of structural variation.

Very interesting track overall.

To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean.

Thanks. :)

I actually toned down the reverbs a bit when I was um.. "mastering". :) There's three kinds of reverbs in there: natural reverb in the samples, analog gear run through spring reverb and vst reverb, so it may get a little heavy at times. :cisfor:

I like this a lot! Reminds me of Phthalo stuff. Unique and not forced at all.

Thanks, man! *Goes to check out what's Phthalo*

I liked the second one the most. One question, what kind of hardware spring reverb do you own and can you recommend it? I want to have ne, but dunno which, there are so many on the evil bay.

Thanks. :)

I have the Doepfer A-199 spring reverb module in my modular system. It's pretty noisy and picks up electromagnetic background radiation from the laptop, speakers, etc (which I have actually exploited by hovering the spring unit above the laptop :cisfor: ). I don't know how it compares to others because it's the only one I've ever used.. It's sounds well dirty at least. :spiteful:

I love this crunchy stuff, it's why I can't get enough of Clark. Some bits here and there reminded me of some of his tracks. I liked the first and third one a lot. Second one was a bit too static for me. Maybe I need to listen to it more though.

Yeah, I found the Phthalo website and It's My Beak video by myself, that was pretty entertaining.

Anyway, sorry to side track. Good tunes you've got!

I've been doing some four-on-the-floor techno remixes of these tracks. Here's the first one:

only had time for the first two because i gots to get to work (hopefully I'll have time when I get back to check the rest), mad interesting, loads of crazy sounds, well mastered.

Someone above mentioned that it doesn't sound forced and I think that's a pretty apt observation, nothing forced here.

Cool shit!

y

was about to say the same... sounds like ambience vst plugin is a bit heavy... still rad though

Thanks for the comments!

The remixes have a little bit less vst reverb because I want them to be a bit punchier.

these are great. love the remix! i think it needs a big deep kick though, still works without it.

No, I don't have Elektron. Just Renoise, Dark Energy, a bunch of Doepfer modules, MFB-522, a Boss distortion pedal, Monotron Delay and Zoom H2 recorder.
