not sure if the appreciation will be shared completely here, but he is usually praised for being a traditional film composers, but was also one of the only established composers to integrate electronics and synths into his orchestra scores

I remember scrambling to find who the Outland soundtrack after seeing it on tv in a hotel on vacation. He's one of those composers whose done so much without being as heralded as John Williams or James Horner.

i would agree with that if it wasn't for Horner's Wrath of Khan score, which slightly edges out Goldsmith's star trek work.

 

he ended up making themes for all the later shows until Enterprise
