a different flavor of the 'everything has already been done so why bother trying' mentality. Not surprised the Gaslamp killer wrapped it under new wording. It's the statement often proclaimed by true artists who die for their craft.

I fundamentally disagree with the sentiment that everything has been done and that Aphex Twin was the pinnacle or the final plateau or whatever

I don't think it matters what has been done, or what hasn't. It matters what you are saying. The way you say it needs to be individual and honest, and you need to be able to properly communicate. It's like BOC says, it is something you can't put into words. It is the most intimate part of you. That is what makes it great. Not the bpm, or the surgical drums, or wicked bassline. You can program the most intricate drums in the world and it won't mean shit if it doesn't have feeling.
