RIP James. it's strange that today I was talking about Sopranos with a friend for the first time in a long time...

fuck. he was very young. the sopranos remains my favourite television drama ever made - i've watched it from start to finish twice and was thinking i was due a rewatch. as much as i love breaking bad and cranston, it's no sopranos - and i'm not sure if anything ever will be.

He was fucking massive, heart attack was always going to be the cause of death.

First celebrity death that's ever bothered me. This is utter shit.

any of us who watch breaking bad or community or arrested development or basically anything these days, we owe a huge debt to david chase and james gandolfini. television drama as it is would literally not exist the way it is without these guys. way too young, and massive fucking respect to the man.

i'm always surprised and amazed by wealthy fat people. they have more to loose than most and the resources to obtain the best health care and training yet they are satisfied to wade through life knowing that they could probably die at any moment

Sometimes, those actors know that they make the millions because of their type.

If Gandolfini were to have shed the pounds, it may actually have hindered his career.

I never really watched the Sopranos, but he seemed like a good actor and a nice enough guy.

Today, a friend of mine on facebook said that JG offered her coke at a party once and she turned it down. Then he told her she was beautiful.

yeah but if they felt like it came down to their health or mainstream hollywood career they could use their riches to start a new career and do wise investments while still acting on stage and in various movies

RIP - My mother in law loves the Sopranos and was an avid fan of him and the series as a whole. Even at 51 I feel he had a long career ahead of him, it's really too soon.

Great actor, and seemed like a decent guy. Plus a hot Chinese wife, same as me, represent.

also kaini, thanks for posting that clip, the way they ended the show was brilliant, a masterclass in both offering a taste of closure (the song) and a masterclass in building tension (seriously, so many smart choices in that scene)

I seriously think if he wasn't overweight, he could have become one of the all-time greats, like Pacino (who I don't really like anyway), Deniro, etc. He was a naturally extremely gifted actor.

someone mentioned it on the first page, but he was superb as the hitman in True Romance. Back then he was young and hot, and could telegraph pure menace mixed with charm like nobody's business. He also held his own remarkably well when you consider he's in the same flick as Dennis Hopper, Christopher Walken, Gary Oldman...
