Recommended Posts

Help me out by filling out this survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FTK5FCJ

Thanks guys!

Edit: The results will be used to formulate a measure for a study I am conducting for my Honors thesis. Message me for more information if you are interested.

Just filled it out. When do we get to see the result?

I'm also posting this survey on various subreddits. I'm going to wait a couple of days to get the most data I can. Feel free to spread it around to your friends--anyone, even non-musicians. It would help a lot!

kdone. good luck.

Some songs I made with my fingers and electronics. In the process of making some more. Hopefully.

Out of curiosity, what question are you trying to shed light on with this survey? And what made you choose to set it up this way?

GHOST: have you killed Claudius yet
HAMLET: no
GHOST: why
HAMLET: fuck you is why
im going to the cemetery to touch skulls

Interesting idea, but I don't really know how much information you will gain from so few, and so open ended questions. You should be more specific, and ask questions with the same answer in different ways for control. I'm curious what the results are, but if I were your professor I would be skeptical about letting you cite such a thin survey as research.

so many assumptions. i'm using this information to construct a scale. i also could've constructed the scale using my imagination, but basing it on responses from musicians is more interesting.

Am I in trouble for putting "Lush" as my answer four times for each analogue and digital? =(

Nah, you're a wee child who can't wait for official release. Embarrassing. Shove your privilege.

I did it. It's interesting for me because I deal with pro digital recording gear and a couple of analog synths. Kind of apples and oranges, but I did my best.

cool, thanks for filling it out. see, that's why i posted about this on here. it's great to get input from people who actually regularly deal with both types of equipment instead of folks with vague notions about what analogue and digital mean.

Done!

Interested in seeing what others said. I'm a big tape fanatic and vintage audio fan but generally listen and record digitally on a daily basis, so actually thinking about analog vs digital sound made me realize things I normally don't think of with the two formats.

the survey has now been complete. i got a total of 57 usable responses, great turn out. here's a list of the words in all the responses in alphabetical order with the frequency in parentheses by the word (if there is no number, that means it only appeared once).

for analogue, the most frequent words are:

alive (7)

distortion (7)

noisy (10)

organic (9)

rich (7)

warm (31)

for digital, the most frequent words are:

accurate (7)

clean (21)

clear (11)

cold (18)

harsh (8)

precise (7)

i need to find a better way to analyze this list as there are a lot of synonyms so it could change the results. this is only a preliminary look. thanks for participating!

edit: i couldn't attach the list, so here it is copy/pasted.
