getting a domain name thats about to expire

Recommended Posts

hey there. so ive been waiting all year for this certain domain name to expire, in the hopes that the owner would forget to renew their account, and it would all be mine!

so i had only recently remembered that the expiry date for the domain is on june 28 2013. ive missed the "update date", which was on june 7 2013, just a few weeks ago. i dont really understand how this all works.

what is the best way to go about this? should i place a "backorder"? ive also heard of a 30 day grace period which gives the domain owner a chance to re-register without losing it. is there anything i can do to get this name before the expirary date in two days? if someone could clear this all up for me, id really appreciate it!

Updated Date: 07-jun-2013
Creation Date: 28-jun-2006
Expiration Date: 28-jun-2014

You wont be able to grab it directly after the expiration date. It goes through a few different phases after expiration. It will become "expired" which is a 40 day grace period during which the owner can still renew without extra costs. Then there's a 30 day redemption period after which it'll be locked for 5 days. So after about 75 days it will be available for registration.

I believe some countries have a TLD's with a shorter grace period or no grace period at all.

hey thanks!

so seeing as the domain has been successfully renewed after 7 years, i suppose it is safe to assume that they owner will renew again this year. i guess i give up. although, ive read of professional services for hire, where they will contact the owner with a reasonable price to buy the domain. perhaps this is the best option for me

if anyone has any more info that would be great

thx
