The Death of Michael Hastings

Recommended Posts

I'm not making any claims that I know more than what's being reported, but the idea that Michael Hastings death is 'suspicious' has been floated around even mainstream media sources. Richard Clarke, former counter terrorism czar for Bush and Clinton says he thinks that Hastings car 'was hacked'. I can't vouch for any of these theories, I just find it interesting how 10 years ago the US media was speculating on if Putin (russia) killed journalists who were writing stories that tried to expose Russian gov corruption, and now we have mainstream US media speculating or at least hinting that the american government potentially had a hand in the death of Hastings.

What do you guys think?

Foxnews and CNN are not outright saying that the US government murdered him, but all these stories very carefully walk around the obvious assertion they're making. Are we in a new territory here? Could it be that after Foxnews and AP have found themselves targets of NSA wiretapping and criminal charges, the gloves are coming off? Doubtful but still intriguing Edited by John Ehrlichman

here is the last e-mail he sent to his colleagues at Buzzfeed, hours before his death in a fiery high speed crash into a tree on a busy st.

Hey (redacted names) -- the Feds are interviewing my "close friends and associates." Perhaps if the authorities arrive "BuzzFeed GQ," er HQ, may be wise to immediately request legal counsel before any conversations or interviews about our news-gathering practices or related journalism issues.

Also: I'm onto a big story, and need to go off the rada[r] for a bit.

All the best, and hope to see you all soon.

Michael

I've heard on the Alex Jones channel he was investigating some previous Cia chief in Algiers, now locked away in a prison on sexual harassment charges. He had interviewed this person for his story and now he is dead.

I drive by that tree that his car hit at least 3 times a week.

The other day, I noticed it was burnt up and that there were flowers all around it. Now I know the story. Crazy.

I bet he was assasinated... or he was just driving like an LA asshole.

It's more likely that they played around with his car.

It seems crazy with all the electronics in modern vehicles and the hackedness of phones and their GPS' (they would know when he arrived at the right spot to accelerate, then turn the wheel and crash), that the only way you couldn't easily get assasinated in one would be if you bought a pre-1990's car. I call dibs on 70's muscle cars.

I think the idea itself that it's easily possible is enough for the situation to be fucked up as shit. What can be done about it?

freaky shit

edit: can I just say though, that young turks guy annoys the fuck out of me?

After this I listened to geogaddi and I didn't like it, I was quite vomitting at some tracks, I realized they were too crazy for my ears, they took too much acid to play music I stupidly thought (cliché of psyché music) But I knew this album was a kind of big forest where I just wasn't able to go inside.

same here, they never say anything new or interesting, he just seems like a big dumb guy with the right type of politics. The Ed show of alt media.

showing that single beer bottle to me was very strange, and only seeks to affirm conspiracy theories regardless of their intentions.

wtf does the bottle have to do with it? Are you telling me that Hastings was drinking that beer when the accident occurred? A single beer bottle made it unscathed threw a window at 80mph? the fuck?

its either highly unnecessary/unrelated to the incident, or its a pathetic attempt to coverup something.

Scary stuff. Fuck our government. Purge the machine. Put them all behind bars. Let us start anew.

it's the beerbottle of Destiny, duh

What's most troubling to me is that right now, at this current time in American history people, even mainstream journalists are starting to muse aloud on live TV that the government may have had a hand in a 33 year old reporter's death.

i think that speaks volumes about just how overboard and frightening the US government has become. Obama isn't going to get through the next 3 years clean, I think these feelings will only intensify before the end of his presidency. Shit's getting interesting

one of the only eye witnesses who saw his car before it crashed said it was on fire before it impacted the palm tree. Whatever the case is, this is some very shady shit. Only about 3 weeks before it happened, he went on CNN and made a statement intended to rally together reporters to 'wage war against the national security state' because 'printing only what the government tells you is not journalism'. He was definitely in the same league of journalists as Glenn Greenwald, almost stupidly fearless...

The man is a patriot. I'm very excited to see where all of this leads, but at the same time I am very wary of the results of these types of situations getting out of hand. I know it seems crazy to talk about some sort of revolution, and naively optimistic as well, but I feel the pressure just keeps building in this direction.

There will be new love from the ashes of us.

There won't be a revolution, (at least not for a while), you're all a bunch of pussys. You have much more to lose before you start manning the baricades. And if things start looking bad, they'll throw you a few bones whilst keeping their hands firmly on the reins.

The best way to win is to turn away from the sources of their power, the means of production and supply. Then they'll start evaporating like a hoard of green witches exposed to the cleansing splash of a kansas thunderhead.

On a more serious note im in the process of getting american citizenship and im really really afraid of saying something bad about the government, im also afraid of the immigration offices getting hold of my emails where i ordered modafinil.

I'm logical about it but the fear still at the back of my mind.

Revolutionary action does not mean violence per se it is just unfortunately a common result of high stakes conflict.

how is modafinil? how does it compare to say adderal or ritalin. What did you need it for?

I used it for narcolepsy and overall energy/mental clarity (and i want to stop using ritalin). Dont expect a sudden burst of energy like on adderall/ritalin, Modafinil is subtle as fuck.

I like it because it fells cleans, it doesnt make me paranoid like ritalin/adderall does which helps because my mind is clear and free without the paranoia.

You also need to take breaks from it because you will build a tolerance, oh and if you take it after 5 pm you won't sleep at all.

The only con so far is that modafilin costs me 80 dollars and ritalin is 4 dollars, lol.

the point that Mercedes should have a vested interest in investigating the crash is well taken. I mean really, are high end cars supposed to explode into a fireball on impact, shooting the transmission all the way out of the vehicle? I've never heard of that before.

Of course the most worrisome aspect of the whole thing is the complacency of the news media. There may be little they can do to investigate further, but I do wish the case was more in the public consciousness, I always despair when I have to learn of things through watmm lol.

I guess Jackass' Ryan Dunn was in the process of uncovering the NSA conspiracy, too :-)

the complacency of the media is one thing, but the fact that they are even floating these theories around on mainstream TV shows that some of the people in charge over there are feeling more paranoid than usual due to the whole NSA spying climate. Even if I wasn't the paranoid mother fucker that I am, and worked for Fox News, I'd be a little bit scared right now and concerned that phone calls revolving around a source or story that is 'anti-government' could be spied on. In a way i feel like the pendulum has swung enough away from being supportive of the US government that we are entering a similar vibe to the late 90s, when shows like X-files were so resonant for us because there was so many reasons to not trust the government. 9/11 caused that anti government wave to go back into hiding, at least for a while. If Rubicon was premiered this Friday it would become a huge hit show, they didn't hit the wave of government paranoia in time. We were still in the sycophantic Obama worshipping Homeland phase back then . Although that's really only true for TV, in movies for a while we've been bombarded by inside-job type plots, even as recently as the newest Star Trek and Batman movies.

edit: there was a brief moment in mid 2002 where the mainstream press was heavily going after Bush when they found out about the 'bin laden determined to strike the US' memo. For some reason they decided to give up the fight, and i haven't seen them pushing back that hard against government until the last 1-2 months. Unfortunately they aren't pushing hard enough, even when their ability to perform the duties of their careers is at stake.

edit2: I guess the push back against the wmd claims in Iraq counts too, but I tend not to think the press was doing anything other than mirroring the political climate change at the time, when the american public themselves started to be against the war.
