I was given Mature Themes for my birthday but never listened to it as it's really not my cup of tea. Watching these videos helps me remember why.

I've only heard Before Today, which has some good songwriting but I get frustrated by the unnecessary lofi-ness of it all. It's like he recorded it in high quality then stuck filters over it or something, or played it back through an AM radio. I don't understand that aesthetic, personally.. just seems kinda fake

You just can't take him so seriously. Proper tongue in cheek tunes. Ariel just pops out loads of charming, real shit sounding songs full of amazing pop hooks and twists and turns.

I totally understand why someone would hear his music and think it's utter shite though.
