Cube World

anyone else interested in this? looks pretty fun imo. and the alpha just went public.

anyway, it's like a slightly better looking minecraft but with more focus on rpg elements and bosses and loot and exploring rather than building things. sort of reminds me of zelda: the wind waker mixed with minecraft.

It pisses me off that they have never developed minecraft in this way. There's literally no reason for why they couldn't do so. Instead we get a redstone update and now horses. They really took their finger of the pulse. I hope to christ they start adding stuff like this to minecraft. If they make it so you can build in cubeworld, minecraft is toast. ( If they keep doing these shitty updates).

Yeah it has been Minecraft's game to lose, and so far they've been treading water. That said, without mining, this looks kind of dull to me so far. And I prefer 1st person view. All the stuff they've done with the animation, and placement of cities and unique objects within the procedurally generated framework, is far superior.

I loved your idea a while back about some sort of co-op element to minecraft. Like every now and again something threatens the base that the group have worked so hard for.

Some examples i just thought of..

In 30 days (mC days) a big giant will come down and ruin your base. However, If you collect a large amount of food as an offering(only obtainable by a group of players) and put them in the giants chest , the giant will not attack

You know what would be cool actually?

If some of the challenges rewarded the players with some kind of allowance to expand the area your group can build on.

Like its prohibited to build in certain places until its made safe by a reward item

the main developer behind cube world was almost hired by mojang a while ago though, he went and visited with them in stockholm and was just about to sign the papers when he backed out and decided he wanted to go at it on his own.

lol. Yeah I think they definitely have to come up with a way to unlock new gaming experiences as you progress in MC, otherwise it all becomes a bit predictable.

It would become a different kind of game if you did this, but I think there's a real market niche for a mash-up of minecraft and civilization, or maybe Minecraft and sim-city, or minecraft and spore, where as you progress in the game you gradually unlock the ability to "craft" more advanced civilization type stuff. And you could tie it in to cooperative behavior. Or maybe just introduce currency (not real currency) and some kind of store...

like, it starts out the same as vanilla minecraft, but at some point you unlock the ability to create a rudimentary steam engine, or combustion engine, which ushers in a new era. The map function will become more robust at this point, so you can look out and see entire areas of the map. Villagers can at that point be employed by you, for mining, farming, or making things. You unlock the ability to make "composite structures", and save them in a library. Like templates. Maybe you could even find some templates in the world, that'd be fun. The basic idea being that once you have a template, as long as you have enough raw materials in your global inventory, you can make it in one click. Then once you reach another milestone of civilization, the map allows you to zoom out further, you get the ability to craft things like dams, aqueducts, hydro power, power plants, make sewers, etc. Oh and think you should also be able to pollute the environment by drilling for oil and stuff, that'd be fun.

And then at some point time's up and you have to go to war against your friend's territory, lol. Like Populous. Man I would play the everloving shit out of a game like this.

i feel like mods like tekkit and FTB has sort of taken over the development of new minecraft features. they're so much more advanced than vanilla minecraft to the point that it seems like mojang just can't keep up anymore, or even want to. FTB lets you build nuclear power plants, drill for oil, introduces a shitload of new ore and materials, lets you build advanced machinery, build and program robots etc etc. meanwhile in the new official patch: horses.

I think I'd get tired of this game in an hour. Minecraft I'm still hooked on. I think they're doing something right at Mojang to make me still love that game.

So how are the horses?

been playing cube world for like 5 hours today, it's really addictive, exploring the world and finding random dungeons with bosses etc. also it's much harder than i thought, you die constantly, like a really really colorful and cute looking demon's souls.

it's got nothing in common with minecraft btw, besides the graphics sort of. it's more of an open world diablo kinda game.

The fact it's different from Minecraft makes me want to try it a bit more.

I've seen horses in Mc but didn't bother to tame them yet, but I'm in no rush as I have a mountain to build.

I found out Minecraft is a introverted, meditative experience for me and extra people bother me. I laways loved the watmm server and stuff people built there was really awesome but still I do Mc solo these days.

This has been the case for about 2 years or so now. I lost most of my interest in Minecraft in the latter days of the beta updates. When mods were much more fun and had a lot more to offer than the vanilla updates. It was pretty funny you'd see something like the potions mod, and then a couple months afterwords it'd be in vanilla. I also lost interest because the main appeal for me in alpha was just mining and building and I loved servers that were just places for the community to build cool houses and have cities and stuff. I didn't like the rpg elements they introduced, it's pretty bad in a game like minecraft. And all the servers got overrun with 7~14 year olds obsessed with the fighting and stuff.

Cube world isn't a mine and build game, so it works. It looks really fun actually. It's colorful, adventurous, cute and all, I'm definitely gonna play this once I get more time on my hands.

I've been trying for months now to nail the Ender Dragon in solo hardcore mode. Gotten up to partial diamond armor (and occasionally I manage to build an xp farm) but only maybe 1/4 times I manage to return from the nether with netherwart and sufficient blaze rods for potions. I have a bad tendency to shoot zombie pigmen with a stray arrow.
