Need help finding this image!

Somewhere at sometime an image was floating around here:

It's black and white, and is some still from a film. It shows a duncey looking man, with a really unique face--Pagliacci clownish type--holding a pistol to his head. It looks like maybe he's in a gas station(??). I have no idea what film is, but I need this image/need to know what film it's from. Please help!

Im a bit confused. Was this guy in the picture a clown or in clown makeup? Or was he just a bit goofy looking?

Or was he Luciano Pavoratti?

Ah, classic film. Just re-watched it a few weeks ago, and the twists and turns still get me, even though I've watched it several times.
