thought this level of absurdity might be appreciated by WATMM. but i just don't know anymore.

The interface of that thing is pretty good, I just noticed today. Would be better than some ipad app when on the go. Have you noticed how many musicians are using ipad apps?

(Btw, I take it these blogs are basically threads organized by user where you don't have to worry about cluttering up the rest of watmm?)

in all seriousness, the OP-1 is fantastic. i love it - this video doesn't really have anything to do with it other than the fact that it's making the little dorky main theme sound.

however, i just got back from SF where i shot MISELU's kickstarter video (google miselu if you're interested) and they've created the closest thing to a full-action keyboard for the ipad that i've ever seen. they're about 20 minutes from making their $99k kickstarter goal as we speak.

i'm personally not a huge fan of the ipad as a music making device... it's too general purpose. it's more of a creative flow paradigm issue than one of inadequate apps. tabletop is pretty great and some of the synths sound fantastic, but the ipad is too limited - not in creative potential but more in compatibility and workflow. i don't know if that makes sense.

but the OP-1 sounds phenomenal - i can't believe some of the sounds i've coaxed out of it. the guy i bought it from (used) said it was too 'digital' sounding for his tastes, but i've managed to get some pretty organic and lush sounds from it. it does kinda favour the more harsh end of things though.

anyway, just wanted to address the OP-1 legitimately. =)

Is that the one that uses magnets for weighting? Looks great.

I think they should've chosen a more serious brandname, btw. "Real Musicians' Engineering OP-1" or something.

yeah 'teenage engineering' is a bit wierd - but they're a design collective, really. not musicians. their other products include a very expensive desk lamp and apparently, soon, an alarm clock.

Makes sense, didn't know that.
