Official English-speaking Miku is nearly here... could make for some interesting experiments.

We are proud to announce the soon release of HATSUNE MIKU V3 ENGLISH! Look forward to our all-in-one package featuring HATSUNE MIKU’s English Singing Voice, Crypton developed easy-to-use vocal editor Piapro Studio that works as VST plugin in your music production software, and the digital audio workstation Studio One 2.5 Artist Piapro Edition with more than 200 virtual instruments that allows you to compose complete music pieces for Miku’s voice!

Piapro Studio is a Vocal Editor that supports VSTi and therefore performs in a high compatibility with all main Digital Audio Workstation applications (PreSonus Studio One, Ableton Live, Steinberg Cubase, Cakewalk SONAR and many more). It allows you to easily operate and modify Miku’s voice.

HATSUNE MIKU V3 ENGLISH comes in an all-in-one package for your own music production of Miku songs! The product contains Miku’s English singing voice database, vocal editor Piapro Studio and the music production application Studio One 2.5 Artist Piapro Edition coming with over 200 virtual instruments (guitar, piano, drums, and various other synthesizers). All applications can be synched with each other which enables you to easily produce whole musical compositions!

its incredible to me just how bad they let these demos sound for Vocaloid when in fact you can heavily automate parameters as to make it sound far more realistic than this example. I was under the impression Yamaha discontinued at least most vocaloid devleopment. Not sure exactly what this is, a 3rd party developer?

You're right, they don't exactly demo it very well. I'm really interested to see what can be done with it outside pop/rock conventions. It's not too outlandish to imagine at least a brief sample of it turning up in a future (Rephlex) EDM compilation track!

The English edition is produced by Yamaha. An official English version had been requested for ages, so many assumed it was being worked on solely in the Vocaloid 2 engine, but it kept getting pushed back with no release date in sight. It's pleasantly surprising that it's releasing under V3 instead, I think the vocal engine itself is vastly improved, especially when using the higher quality settings.

huh, I'll admit i'm still really effing confused on all the different versions of Vocaloid out there.

I have Vocaloid Lola, and it speaks english, modeled after an opera singer. It's for windows only. Not sure if it's version 2 or 3. Whichever one that it is I'm using it only has in depth automation in the stand-alone editor mode. Running as a VST it's pretty fake sounding, you can only manipulate about 5-6 parameters but not the vibrato speed or depth in real-time with a knob or anything, you can set in a menu but thats it.

I want a Vocaloid 3 plugin now, but it's $150. And individual language packs are another $75. Sheeyit.

Maybe I'll have to do some saving up for a while. I just wanna experiment with Hatsune Miku-style voice synthesis and make a cover/remix of a song by Outkast, as crazy as that sounds.

To keep it real and analog, I'm gonna start posting to WATMM by writing my posts in fountain pen on hemp paper, putting them in bottles, and throwing them into the ocean.

you have to watch those silent people, always trying to trick you with their silence

just managed to track down every english speaking vocaloid voice last week, they are windows only but the long rumored 'Tom Waits' voice made by a 3rd party company that scammed tons of folks (took their money and closed shop) has now surfaced as a torrent. Haven't tried it yet but things are about to get real weird
