Hello WATMM ! So me and my family are off to London where we'll spend about five days and I'm asking you for nice places, addresses that you could give me, because I'm sure that there's plenty of awesome stuff that travel guides don't mention - as always.

Feel free to post anything you think might be interesting !

Thanks :)

good burgers to be had at meat liquor

good nights out to be had at corsica studios

animals to pet and walks to be taken around deen city farm (free)

if you're of a mind (and a bit desperate coz it's not amazing or anything) weed to be bought from ackee tree newsagents discreetly

fun to be had on a london ghost walk (might look cheesy, but i've done one and it was great)

and of course, and most importantly - order a taxi to camden

If you must go to Camden don't take a cab - in fact don't take a cab anywhere - but walk there down Regent's canal from Kings Cross, bypassing King's Place (home of The Guardian offices, they have a decent bar and nice art to look at). Go to the Wellcome Collection, and the Hunterian museum. Ignore the Science museum and London Zoo as they're pretty rubbish, the V&A is pretty good though.

As said previously, London is a very big place, each pocket - of which there are several - is filled with little gems and has its own character. I recommend a book called Secret London if you manage to get hold of it, it's pretty good if you're looking for something a little different from the London Eye and an overpriced burger on Brick Lane.

^^ +1 on ignoring the Science Museum, and be careful if you want to visit the Natural History Museum (both are next to each other) on a weekend, as the queues are massive.

Defo start off with Tate Modern (free entry for most floors, some collections require a ticket).

Visit the Borough Market. Go for a walk at the South Bank (visit the Royal Festival Hall etc.).

Pubwise, I recommend The Harp, near Charing Cross station. Ubercheap, proper selection of ales

go to cyberdog in camden market and marvel at the psy trance hippies wrecked on a wednesday afternoon.

+1 on borough market, awesome hog roast and cider and all sorts of amazing fresh foods.

If you go clubbing try Corsica Studios as already mentioned, or fabric if you want the big room experience.

Speakers corner at hyde park can be a laugh.

When are you visiting?

Berwick St in Soho, best record stores; Sister Ray etc.

Is the London Dungeon still open? Must see if so.

** East London Places **

Visit Brick Lane: Loads of 'world cuisine' food, mostly Indian. The Rough Trade East record store is there too.

From there, off to Spitalfields Market for more food & stuffs.

Definitely walk up the reagents canal, there is a puppet show for the kids at little Venice and it goes past the zoo to Camden. Go on a river cruise and visit the aquarium. Have a picnic in one of the many parks. Visit one of our many lidos ( outdoor pools) and splash in the sun.

Am just about to move but have lived here for nearly 9 years; here's a few things I enjoy:

Tiroler Hut in Notting Hill- Might seem odd to come to London and head straight for an Austrian-themed bar but it's the kind of bar that couldn't really happen in Austria. The owner provides the music every night- it's a brilliant (ly bad) medley of everything associated with Austria- Bit of Mozart and sound of music. There's always a cowbell solo and this old Italian guy called Ricardo comes in most nights and does a spot of Karaoke. Plus waitresses in dirndls are hot.

Gordon's Wine Bar between Embankment and Charing Cross.

Borough Market

A day in Hampstead (and Hampstead Heath)- Have a walk, a shop and a pub lunch/dinner in that order.

Natural History/ Science Museum/ Victoria and Albert- All on the same street (exhibition road) at South Kensington. Depends on the age of your family but kids will probably like the Science museum best. Personally I like the British Museum at Tottenham Court Road.

A prom- Also at South Kensington and £5 a head. Obviously you'll need to have a vague interest in classical music to enjoy this but it's in the Royal Albert Hall and it's the biggest music festival in the world.

Camden's ok, probably worth a walk around.

Avoid Brick Lane though- the quality of the food isn't as good as elsewhere and the "awards" pasted on every shop are from about 60 different bodies which were presumably set up to fool tourists. It's a bit off the beaten track but the very best Indian I've been to in my time here (and I eat a lot of Indian food) is Crystal Palace Tandoori on Westow Hill, Crystal Palace.

Someone said Little Venice and Regent's Canal- that's a very good call.

And yeah the Harp's a nice pub. Also the Toucan (best Guinness in London) and the Crown and Greyhound in Dulwich Village.

Oh, also Kew Gardens.

There's also lots of stuff on Time Out London. There's even a special family events section.

There's some nice river walks by Hammersmith, you can go all the way to chelsea or out in the opposite direction to richmond if you've got a spare few hours and the weather is good. Nice scenery and a few good pubs en route too.

Don't go there on a hangover, I nearly puked all over the gaff.

If I remember right mcbpete it was around the time you once did that that watmm broke and went all comic sans/trippy/upside down.

Or was it because somebody reported a mod? I can't quite remember.
