Mini Midi Keyboard Suggestions

Recommended Posts

Guest Jimmy McMessageboard

So my Edirol PCR M30 has a few broken keys and is time to get a new keyboard.

I was looking at getting something smaller. mini maybe. For easy storage. Will two octaves only be annoying? maybe.

I saw the korg nanokey2 but that looks more like buttons than keys. I still want it to feel like a keyboard but just little.

I don't really care about knobs and sliders. the korg nanokey really has everything I need. Just not sure about those buttons

Suggestions please.

How about the Minikey rather than the Nanokey? Never tried it but seems to fit the bill.

searching but nothing is coming up for minkey

put me down as a maybe

I also have an MPK mini, it might be just what youre looking for. it feels "just a little" like a keyboard but the guy above me is right, the velocity is bullshit.

Having only 2 octaves does start to feel restrictive at times as does not having a pitch/mod wheel but the knobs and pads are convenient. Also, I never use it but it has an arpeggiator. Fits nicely in a backpack with a laptop and is self usb powered.

Suprised no one has suggested the IRig Keys. I have this and it sits nicely on my desktop. Price isn't too bad at £59.99 and it can also be used to control IOS devices!!

that is a nice size. shame about the name. ifucking hate how people just put "i" on names. lazy.

good size though. i wouldn't be hooking it up with an ipad though, so might be more than i need.

how does it feel?

Feels okay to me. Has the basic controls you need like pitch and mod wheels. It really depends if you like mini keys which I just happen to.

These old Yamaha CBXK1 midi controllers are nice. Velocity, octave button, mod and pitch, all kinds of hex stuff I don't know how to use. Can also run on batteries. Not sure how easy they are to find anymore.
