Ka - The Night's Gambit

Very unusual rap artist & producer with DIY aesthetics all-around.

That's his third album, all self-released, despite interest from major publishers (wouldn't call names not to scare watmm's crowd). All his life he lives in Brownsville, NY, a tough place. First went on a radar in early 1990s, then kept it quiet for almost 20 years.

He developed interesting style both in rapping and beats. Beats aren't really standard hip-hop beats, more like floating samples with a distinct old-school vibe, yet too minimal and not punching enough to be of any recognisable style. Then his rhymes are pretty intricate, and he doesn't go over some kind of loud whispering, he just talks it out similar to DOOM, but avoiding stylistic diversity and typical show-off.

This shit is doing it for me. Excellent! Been in a hip hop mood lately and this is the first new thing in a while that's really grabbed me. Even more awesome to know he's completely independent. Dropping some cash in his hand today.

copped this the other day, have yet to give it a listen, im definitely intrigued and seems people have nothing but good to say about it. I should get to giving it a listen later tonight. Seems this may be the dark hip-hop itch I've been trying to scratch for a while.
